NUCLEAR ACTIVISTS DECLARE GLOBAL WAR ON ATOMIC POWER
The Coalition Against Nukes [ coalitionagainstnukes.org ] recently convened in Washington, DC to launch a new multinational movement to end the operation of nuclear power plants and embrace renewable energy and environmental safety. Joined by victims of Fukushima, Indian activists, and an alliance of domestic anti-nuclear organizations, the C.A.N. coalition briefed Congressional leaders, rallied at the Capitol, and âoccupiedâ the headquarters of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Participants in the three-day mobilization included:
Ohio Rep. DENNIS KUCINICH [ kucinich.house.gov ], leader of a House vote to reject a pro-atomic resolution to create a âManhattan Project National Monument (HR.5987) ;
Dr. JILL STEIN, Green Party Presidential candidate;
MARIKO BENDER, a Japanese-American native of Fukushima, with the World Network for Saving Children from Radiation, detailing health and social effects of the multiple Japanese meltdowns; and
IORI MOCHIZUKI [ fukushima-diary.org ], and other speakers at the C.A.N. rally on the Capitol steps.
