The Manitoba government is close to approving the first new mine in a provincial park in decades. Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company (Hudbay) is poised to open a new copper mine in Grass River Provincial Park. The mine is in the heart of critical woodland caribou habitat, a species listed under both the federal and provincial endangered species acts as threatened. Eric Reder is the Manitoba Campaign Director with the Wilderness Committee. More information about the proposed mine, including video footage of area, is available at wildernesscommittee.org.
