Calling it a modern day Avatar, Zaitchik describes situation of indigenous Shuar who are resisting Pres. Correa’s decision to open their land, the Cordillera del Condor rainforest to copper and gold mining by China and Canada while international Left praises Correa as foe of Western imperialism, fooling even Vandana Shiva and John Perkins. Hence, there is no international outcry. The rainforest’s aquifers hold much of the continent’s fresh water and its diversity includes more than 2000 species of plants and flowers.
