Stephen Funk, a 20 year-old Marine Reservist, has been "UA" (unauthorized absence) since mid-Feb 2003, when he was to report to Camp Pendelton in CA. On April 1st, Funk held a press conference in San Jose, CA to turn himself in and publicly declare his opposition to the war in Iraq. Apparently, the military does not plan on charging him; he will be on restricted duty, working a desk job at the base in San Jose while officials consider his application for discharge.

Bob Fitch currently works with the Resource Center for Nonviolence in Santa Cruz, California as a Webmaster, draft and C.O. counselor, volunteer recruiter, and general administrative gofer. Bob spent fourteen years working as a photojournalist for many key civil rights, peace, justice, and organized labor organizations and campaigns.

The number for the G.I. Rights Hotline is (800) 394-9544.
