Cafe Justicia is an organic coffee produced in the highlands of Guatemala by the Campesino Committee of the Highlands. The committee processes and markets coffee produced by individual local cooperatives. This means that the growers can avoid many of the middlemen who keep most of the profits from sale of the coffee. The Campesino Committee of the Highlands provides medical care, schools and libraries for local indigenous people. It also works to redistribute land, both for agriculture and for homes for the landless poor. General coordinator Leocadio Juracan came to Canada in March 2013. He was accompanied on his speaking tour by Steve Stewart of BC CASA. Here is Steve Stewart introducing Leocadio Juracan at an event that took place at Rhizome Café. |
