Jimmy Carter is the 39th U.S. President, the founder of The Carter Center and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

He remarks on the U.S. continuing commitment to war. He states that the U.S. is in violation of 10 of the 30 paragraphs of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

He mentioned the gap between the wealthy and the rest of the country. He comments on the effect of unrestricted private funding of elections. He claims that the U.S. is the only developed country with a death penalty. He states his opposition to the death penalty and assassination of Americans. Then he explains how the Carter Center attempts to remedy some of these problems.

Jimmy Carter's presidency was marked by the energy crisis and a troubled relationship with Iran. The Carter administration's foreign policy accomplishments included the Panama Canal treaties, the Camp David Accords, Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty, the SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union, and the establishment of U.S. diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. The Carter Center advances health and agriculture in the developing world. It has spearheaded the international effort to eradicate Guinea worm disease.
