During a time when the Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) administration is demanding austerity from faculty, staff and students it is amassing a huge surplus, expanding administration positions, and increasing the pay of administrators and their staff. The shortfall in the university's budget is paraded about to justify the cut backs in classes, tenured professors and support for students. This forum unpacks some typical deceptions used by NEIU and other universities to support a neo-liberal agenda through budget slight of hand, obfuscation and intimidation.
What does it mean to be censured by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP)? The result of a formal investigation of NEIU by the AAUP for suppression of academic freedom is also explained.
