Advocates of (1) computer networks, (2) Ayn Rand-ian individualism, and (3) financial deregulation--all claimed that their cause would increase freedom, democracy, prosperity, and stability. These three causes were related--and were combined in Fed chairman Alan Greenspan.
But it was all nonsense. This film explores these interconnected 20th-century delusions and their aftermath.
Part 1 takes us from the emergence of Ayn Rand in the 1950s to the economic bubble of the Clinton years (late 1990s).
This is the first half of Adam Curtis video documentary "Love and Power" (2011)--adapted to radio and slightly condensed by K.D. "Love and Power" is the first segment of Curtis trilogy, "All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace."
"New World Notes" is produced under the auspices (Latin for "imprimatur") of WWUH-FM, a community service of that beacon of light in darkest Connecticut, the University of Hartford.
This installment is available also on The Internet Archive (www.archive.org).
