First, we review the subject matter of an April 14 Mondoweiss article by Nancy Murray: "Itâs time to reveal the Israeli role in the US surveillance machine." Here is a pertinent excerpt: "As described in the UK Guardian by Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras and Ewen MacAskill, a 2008 document obtained by whistleblower Edward Snowden states that 'one of the NSAâs biggest threats is actually from friendly intelligence services, like Israel. There are parameters on what NSA shares with them, but the exchange is so robust, we sometimes share more than we intended.'" Following that, today's main presentation is an important lecture by Professor Salman H. Abu-Sitta of the London-based Palestine Land Society, entitled "The Geography of Occupation." Abu Sitta is a widely respected geographer.
Abu-Sitta gives a personal account of how he became a refugee in Palestine in 1948. Using data from his research, Abu-Sitta shows how over 600 Palestinian villages were systematically depopulated by the advancing Israeli forces, leaving many others dismembered by an arbitrary cease-fire line. With maps and demographic statistics, Abu-Sitta shows that, in effect, Zoinist policies were an ethnic cleasing campaign that resulted in a massive transfer of native Palestinians to the countries bordering Israel, where thousands remain within 100 miles from their original communities.
Abu Sitta points out that ethnic cleansing policy was (and remains) a fundamental principle of Zionism: that we want the land, we do not want the people. For video of this presentation, go to ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJrW-BhgMx0
