Zafar Bangash responds to Phil Taylor's concern: Syria has taken in tens of thousands of refugees from Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon. Why now does Lebanon not now welcome the Syrian refugees?
Bangash shows the majority of Lebanese have welcomed 1.2 million Syrian refugees (more than 1/4 of their total population of 4 million). He explains the complication of the collapsed Lebanon government, which has not had a president since May of 2014, due partly to the French imposed colonial constitution. If this Constitution were removed, Bangash proclaims that Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah would win hands down because Hezbollah's successful and non-discriminating social services -- especially in housing, food distribution and medical care -- are cherished by all.
Bangash explains how and why the current garbage crisis in Lebanon is being exploited to create a crisis inside of Lebanon--a crisis that might force Hezbollah to withdraw its military from Syria and also draw them into internal conflict in Lebanon, which Hezbollah has worked hard to avoid for decades.
