Discussing his recent (August) article,"'Hamilton' The Musical:" Black Actors Dress Up like Slave Traders and Its Not Halloween," Ishmael Reed brings to life the irony and sadness of Black Americans (as well as Latinos) participating in a recent Broadway blockbuster, "Hamilton" that paints a false picture of Alexander Hamilton as an abolitionist.

Reed points out that Hamilton bought and sold slaves on behalf of his wealthy in-laws and that Washington and Jefferson owned and mistreated slaves. Half of the slaves on Washington’s plantation were described by witnesses as bi-racial.
Ishmael Reed recommended Annette Gordon-Reed’s book, “The Hemingses of Monticello”. Reed also recommends work by Professor Michelle Duross http://www.earlyamerica.com/early-america-review/volume-15/hamilton-and-slavery/ as well as James Loewen.
