This episode of Back in the USSR is a little different. I rarely indulge in pop culture anymore, but I want to pay tribute, as a communist, to two men - David Bowie and Alan Rickman - who, for different reasons, have had a significant influence on me. David Bowie, for his ability to change and be self-critical when he had to be. Alan Rickman, for his support of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement against the Apartheid state of Israel and his solidarity with the Palestinian people. The ability to change and the ability to stand in solidarity, are qualities to be celebrated in a person. I hope these two people will be remembered for these qualities.
Music by David Bowie, Trent Reznor, Public Enemy, Eric Voice, and Serafim Tulikov.
