On The Commons is a weekly radio show dedicated to discussing the many issues surrounding mandatory homeowner associations, the fastest growing form of residential housing in the nation.

In many parts of the country almost all housing is of the controlled variety. Older neighborhoods, where homes come with back and front yards, gardens full of flowers and fresh vegetables, lawns, adequate parking for guests and room for kids and pets to play and run around, are being replaced with high density, attached and stacked housing. Such overcrowded living conditions tend to bring on their own set of problems. What is in store for residential America? With a little forethought, is it possible to avoid some of the inevitable problems?

On The Commons with me this week is Professor Evan McKenzie. Author of the award-winning book "Privatopia: Homeowner Associations and the Rise of Residential Private Government", Evan is a Political Science professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago, a much sought after speaker and seminar leader, both nationally and on the international circuit, and the preeminent authority on homeowner associations. Please join us On The Commons, this Saturday, March 6, 2004. We'll talk about the Twin Rivers case, a recent N.J. trial court decision where Professor McKenzie was an expert witness, we'll hear about his presentation at CAI's recent Law Seminar and about an international Conference he just attended on Gated Communities.
