Our feature presentation today is given by Miko Peled. Miko was born in Jerusalem in 1961 into a well known Zionist family. His grandfather, Dr. Avraham Katsnelson was a Zionist leader and signer on the Israeli Declaration of Independence. His father, Matti Peled was a young officer in the war of 1948 and a general in the war of 1967 when Israel conquered the West Bank, Gaza, Golan Heights and the Sfainai. But Miko has a different vision for Israelâ¦and for the Palestinian people, as you will hear. Here we have Miko Peled speaking at the Church Center for The United Nations in New York City.
But first, we celebrate the way in which oppressed peoples are seeing the commonality of the struggles of others around the globe and are rising up in support of each other. Whether it is around the issue of incarceration, police abuse, blatant discrimination or land confiscation, hands are being extended around the world to challenge all forms of oppression.
A marvelous example of this the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions National Committee ("BNC"), which has issued an explicit statement of support to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, which is fighting the Dakota Access Pipeline being constructed by the Energy Transfer Partners Corporation.
