Journalist Mohammed Omer speaks about his new book "Shell Shocked" and the Gaza Unlocked campaign. As journalist and Gaza resident, he provides a first hand account of life on the ground during Israel's most recent attack. In his presentation he takes listeners on a visit to Gaza to experience conditions and hard ships as well as the determination of Gaza's residents to educate their children and sustain their families and culture in spite Israeli efforts to disrupt their lives. He mentions that there still remain over a thousand Christians in Gaza who have refused enticements from the West to abandon their homes and culture.
Israel enforces military control over land, air, tunnel and sea access as collective punishment; blocking food, medicine and the material to maintain an urban society.
He speaks of the TSD (Traumatic Stress Disorder) that the children who make up the majority of the society experience; trauma induced stress that Israel inflicts continuously.
During the Q&A he is asked about the absence of a critique of Israel's policy and attacks [ it's program to ethnically cleanse historic Palestine and eliminate its rightful occupants through what would be any where else called genocide]. His answer is revealing. He also speaks of the power of BDS and the impact that the nonviolent Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement is having world wide.
