Last July's coup attempt in Turkey brought accusations of a hitherto obscure Muslim sect, the 'Gulen movement' being behind it. Whether or not the Gulen movement was behind, or used as a tool in the coup attempt, the use of Muslim sects should be a fruitful area of study since the emergence of other groups such as Al-Muhajiroun, Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram and Al-Nusra which purport to be Islamic yet don't appear to act by the rules of the faith. Communications Professor James Tracy lost his job early in 2016 for comments he made about the Sandy Hook attack by Adam Lanza in December 2012. James explains that Lanza was strangely well connected since his father was a senior banker and that there were discrepancies where the authorities in charge at the scene of the attack on a school where 29 people died, where they failed to follow standard procedures.
