Mark Pope joins us to talk about his father, Ray, who wrote a series of childrens books in the 1970s which have achieved rarity value. The 'Model Railway Men' in the books, populate a child's make-believe world but manage to connect with and comment with insight on the 'real' world as the children carry them around in their pockets. Through this surreal social commentary Ray entertains children and his model railway men come out with some profound truths too about the Beeching axe and the world of the 1960s and '70s too. Mark is getting the books republished because some of the hardbacks in the series, wonderfully illustrated by Gareth Floyd, are selling for hundreds of pounds.

Jim Marrs, who died this week, was one of the great legends of US conspiracy scholarship. Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, he first began to look into the systems by which power-crazy people secrete themselves into key jobs from which they manoeuvre to control the rest of us with the assassination of president John F. Kennedy in 1963. Since then he's written about population control, the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, 9/11 and the Illuminati. We speak to Austin Texas based talk show host George Butler, who presents The Secret Truth and both met and interviewed Jim Marrs many times. What secrets connect Egypt‘s Great Pyramids, the Freemasons, and the Council on Foreign Relations? In this astonishing book, celebrated journalist Jim Marrs examines the world‘s most closely guarded secrets, tracing the history of clandestine societies and the power they have wielded – from the ancient mysteries to modern–day conspiracy theories.
