Again this week we have an original feature presentation that will fill our entire time. Israeli human rights attorney Michael Sfard spoke at the Harvard Hillel Society in Cambridge, and we were there to record it for This Week In Palestine. Sfard is one of those rare attorneys obsessed with a passion to represent those in society being abused by the systemâ¦which in his society is the Palestinians. But he is quick to say that in so doing, he is also striving to save the soul of his country, Israel. Only a just society for everyone is acceptable to him, and that is what he strives to achieve. Michael Sfard is the author of the recently published book, The Wall and The Gate, which examines the ethics and challenges of legal work for human rights. Recounting key cases and issues, Michael Sfard lays bare the reality of the occupation and exposes its surreal legal structures. With emotional force and penetrating analysis, he offers both a moral reckoning with the occupation and a blueprint for a hopeful future.
The presentation is in the form of a conversation with two in the Harvard Community⦠Arthur Applbaum of Harvard's JFK School of Government, and Harvard undergraduate Isabel Slavinsky. Each will ask Michael Sfard questions which will stimulate the conversation. We begin with a question from Professor Applbaum.
