The embargo is absurdly cruel and like many other polices targeting Latin Americans, the cruelty is the point. It is never acceptable for us to use cruelty as a point of leverage against everyday people, extracting a high human cost, stifling the development of the Cuban economy and make the daily life harder for families. We condemn the US governments inhumane treatment of Cubans and demand it immediately life the economic embargo.

Ward, Peter — "A World Without Ice Caps" Part Two

When the polar ice caps melt, sea level will rise. That’s happened earlier in the history of the world, and it appears it will happen again.
In this edition of Radio Curious, we bring you a two part series on global warming and sea level rise, with Peter D. Ward, a paleontologist and professor of biology and earth and space sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle. He is the author of “The Flooded Earth: Our Future in a World Without Ice Caps,” in which he describes expected conditions in 2050, 2300 and 2500.
This series with Professor Peter D. Ward, was recorded on August 2, 2010, from his office in Seattle, Washington. In part 1, Ward begins with a description of what will happen when the level of the sea rises. In part 2, we begin with a discussion of why, in the face of rather clear evidence, there continues to be a denial of global warming.
The books Peter Ward recommends are, “An Inconvenient Truth,” by Al Gore and “Weather Makers,” and any other book by Tim Flannery.

This week, on the Global Research News Hour, we discuss the article written by a Global Research contributor in the Winnipeg paper called Ethnorama News which was raised by at least one member of the public and led to the end of sponsorship by two representatives of the left leaning NDP: Leah Gazan and Daniel Blaikie. In our first half hour we speak to the author of the article, Dr John Ryan, about the factual content on which it was based and the problems from his point of view with the NDP for appearing to coerce the two individuals to wash their hands of the magazine based on one article.
Then we speak with Ethnorama editorial collective members Marianne Cerilli and Glen Michalchuk about their defense of the article and their critical view of US-NATO’s role in the war. And also of the fund-raising event scheduled for the 31st of March.

The Sonic Café unexpectedly lost a fan of the program, and a personal friend of mine for more years than I can remember. His name was Michael Leidel, and he hailed from Muscatine, Iowa. He was a mainframe programmer for John Deere, an artist, musician, a warm hearted wonderful guy, who also boasted a vinyl collection that would make any vinyl enthusiast amazed. He was an original and I will truly miss him. This One’s For Mike. This time the Sonic Café presents an eclectic mix plucked from the last 50 years. Europera 5 is the last and most diminutive of Cages operas " preceded by Europeras 1 & 2 (1984-1987) and Europeras 3 & 4 (1991) " and was instigated by pianist Yvar Mikashoffs desire for a small, more practical and portable, and more easily performed work in the series, which had its premiere in Buffalo at the North American New Musical Festival on April 12, 1991.
