Liner notes by James Booker:
Dinah D is a West Coast gem, a real rarity, whose presence, style, and sound will all stick in your head from the very first time you hear her. Of course, jazz has no shortage of female vocalists, and the feminist revolution has even encouraged (allowed?) some women to pick up the oh-so-MALE stand-up bass (see Mingus for more on this). But herein lies part of the recipe for Dinah Ds triple threat jazz style. Dinah is not only a solid upright bass player thumping out that low register downbeat almost effortlessly, she is also a gifted singer; a seductive contra-alto with a wry sense of humour. Dinahs skill as a performer is backed up by strong song-writing talent (check out Dawson, a classic in the making) with roots that go deep ~ far back to the days of Viper jazz ~ and a sound that is steeped in the blues. If you get the chance to see Dinah perform, do not hesitate to make the gig.
-James Booker

Recently (July 9, 2006) she performed at Vancouver Island Music Festival in Courtenay with Tina Jones (D'Ants in Your Pants), and later with chosen musicians in "The Barn".
In August we recorded the conversation you'll hear, through which I later wove two of her performed songs ("Every moment of life with you", and "sittin' and thinkin'"). Both Dinah D and Tina Jones (www.tinajonesmusic.com) are outstanding musicians, who share their enthusiasm with children through music/performance/learning activities on Gabriola Island (located off of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada).

Please be in touch by e-mail with comments, feedback, and if you aired this on your station/program broadcast, to livingonpurpose@chly.ca ~ thanks!
