ON FRIDAY AT 4 PM, ANSWERING THE CALL FROM THE NEWARK ANTI-VIOLENCE COALITION, TWO HUNDRED COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND ACTIVISTS MOVED TO THE CENTER OF BROAD AND MARKET, THE BUSIEST INTERSECTION IN DOWNTORN NEWARK NEW JERSEY AND BLOCKED RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC FOR OVER THREE HOURS.
POLICE, SOME MOUNTED ON HORSEBACK, OBSERVED AT SOME DISTANCE BUT DID NOT INTERVENE.
WHILE N.A.V.C HAS CONDUCTED DOZENS OF STREET BLOCADES IN THE PAST TWO YEARS, THIS BOLD OCCUPATION MAY BE AN INDICATION THAT THE MOVEMENT IS GAINING MOMENTUM.
