On The Commons is a weekly radio show dedicated to discussing the many issues surrounding mandatory homeowner associations, the fastest growing form of residential housing in the nation.

One of the primary functions of any real government is to protect its citizens, and in this country, in order to fulfill that duty, we have a huge military, national guards, police departments, sheriffs, an intricate court system, prosecutors, the FBI, CIA and a whole host of other agencies whose only duty is to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. It is what we, as citizens, pay for through our taxes. Even the common pick pocket is not immune from incurring the wrath of the full force of the local gendarmerie when trying to ply the skills of his trade. Why is it, then, that the crimes that occur routinely in some private segments of modern society enjoy a hands off status by those tasked to protect us?

On The Commons with me this week is Monica Sadler. Monica has spent years on the legal roller coaster battling her homeowners association. Despite the time and toll it has taken on her, not to mention the half a million dollars it has cost her - so far, she has taken the time to really understand the issues facing her. Articulate, passionate and a prolific writer, and armed with her knowledge of the issues, she has finally convinced the State's Attorney to investigate the irregularities in one of those hallowed "private" sectors. Please join us On The Commons this coming Saturday, September 27, 2003. We will learn more about this formidable fighter and learn what it took to try to get her taxes dollars to work for her.
