On The Commons is a weekly radio show dedicated to discussing the many issues surrounding mandatory homeowner associations, the fastest growing form of residential housing in the nation.

One of the features of a common ownership development is property that is owned in common by the owners in the development. Common property can range from streets, gates, parks and ponds to recreational facilities like tennis courts and swimming pools. And, as can be expected, they will all, at some point, require major repairs. Are associations adequately prepared for these expected repairs? What happens when there isn't enough money in the kitty to cover these costs? And how do potential homebuyers determine whether their dream home will be costing them more than they bargained for?

On The Commons with me this week is Robert Nordlund. Robert, an engineer by education, is a Reserves Specialist with his own company, Association Reserves, inc., headquartered in California. He has extensive experience in reserves, has authored many articles and is a frequent speaker on the topic of reserves. He is past president of CAI's, Greater Los Angeles Chapter. Please join us On The Commons this Saturday, January 17, 20024 as we talk about the general health of reserves nationally, what to look for and what resources may be available to housing consumers to arm them with the tools to make the right decisions when they buy their dream home.
