On The Commons is a weekly radio show dedicated to discussing the many issues surrounding mandatory homeowner associations, the fastest growing form of residential housing in the nation.
Under the guise of protecting and enhancing property values, homeowners in mandatory membership associations have been stripped of property rights that their non controlled counterparts continue to enjoy. While many of the restrictions that are part and parcel of an HOA unit are supposed to ensure structural and exterior conformity to some arbitrary standard, these restrictions do, more often than not, adversely affect the use and enjoyment of one's home. In some cases they negatively impact the greater community and even the nation. One of the standard association taboos has to do with antennas. What are the real ramifications of this ban? How do bans on antennas really affect us?
On The Commons with me this week is Don Schellhardt. Don, an attorney and long time friend of the small broadcaster, has recently been hired as a lobbyist by the National Antenna Consortium to lobby for Federal laws prohibiting unnecessary restrictions on antennas. Please join us On The Commons this Saturday, April 24, 2004. We'll find out how these bans affect us and why we shouldn't sacrifice safety for aesthetics.
