Edward Snowden and Glen Greenwald on Privacy and Surveillance
March 29, 2016, 6:58 p.m.
Edward Snowden, Glen Greenwald, and Noam Chomsky were exploring the urgent topic of privacy in todays surveillance state at the event entitled: "Conversation on Privacy".
NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden was participating by video-stream from Russia. The excerpts in this program focus on him and Glen Greenwald. Greenwald is best known as having met with Edward Snowden on his way into exile in Hong Kong in 2013. He received the documents that Snowden had taken in order to prove the extraordinary depth of government spying that Snowden had observed while employed by the CIA and as contractor for the NSA.
Greenwald was a columnist for the British Guardian and is now founding editor of the Intercept and a frequent guest on CNN, MSNBC and Democracy Now.
This program deals with the resurgence of a Free Speech movement, constitutional rights in the age of surveillance, the right and even responsibility to alert the public about wrongdoing, the expansion of powers and privileges the government is claiming; and the point of view that rights to privacy exist to protect the minority against the majority.

Alexandria Sage on Self-Driving Vehicles
March 29, 2016, 2:47 p.m.
The glamour of the limousine is undeniable - who wouldn't want to be shuttled about town without a care in the world? Traffic, parking, sobriety? Somebody else's problem! With the introduction of the self-driving car, limo luxury could become pretty commonplace. As with many new technologies, though, self-driving cars bring up myriad sustainability, legal. and ethical questions. These questions notwithstanding, it appears that the self-driving car is coming, and coming soon: the Obama administration recently announced that the US government will be pledging to invest nearly $4 billion in autonomous driving technology over the next decade. Meanwhile, deep-pocketed companies like Google, Toyota, ber and General Motors have made their own investments into self-driving vehicles. This week on Sea Change Radio, we learn more about this emerging technology from Reuters Transportation Technology Correspondent, Alexandria Sage.
