Jewish Voice for Peace-Chicago: Protesting the JNF

Nov. 3, 2015, 7:48 p.m.
The Jewish National Fund was in town to collect money for its "projects" in Israel. As one speaker relates, as a child she was encouraged to give money to "plant a tree". She is now protesting JNF having learned that the donations, small and large, have been used to remove Palestinians, take their land and destroy their history. Interviews are during the march to the hotel where the JNF event was held and rally following. JVP members managed a flash mob in the hotel lobby during the demo. They recreate it at the end of the rally. The first speaker, a former board member of the JNF in Washington, DC, explains why he is no longer supporting JNF or a Zionist. JNF separate, unequal policies are a root cause of escalating violence against Palestinians. "The Jewish National Fund is deeply complicit in the ongoing dispossession of Palestinian land, the destruction of Palestinian homes and the theft of Palestinian resources that has continued unabated since 1948. These practices are among the root causes of the escalating violence in the region today. JVP-Chicago calls on fellow American Jews to disassociate themselves from the separate and unequal policies toward Palestinians the JNF implements in our name. The action united the major Palestinian organizations in the Chicago-area (Coalition for Justice in Palestine) to also condemn today’s Israeli state and settler violence against Palestinians, which has led to the killing of 55 Palestinians, and the injuring of over 2,000, since October 1. The JNF racially segregates the 13% of Israeli public land it controls in “Israel Proper,” prohibiting its use by Palestinians. JNF asserts it “does not have a duty to practice equality towards all citizens of the state.” JNF’s control of 10 of 22 seats on the Israel Land Council, governing the Israel Land Authority, empowers it to pursue its discriminatory ideology throughout 93% of land within the Green Line. JNF collaborates with the Israeli government to replace Palestinian communities it destroys with Jewish-only settlements or manicured forests that erase any trace of Palestinian presence, including the Ambassador Forest planned to replace the village of al-Arakib within Israel’s Green Line (1948 Palestine) ".

Elaine Hagopian and Nancy Murray on Water Justice

Nov. 3, 2015, 6:23 p.m.
The issue we explore this week is water …water justice in Palestine/Israel, and how that relates to Massachusetts. We have two presentations recorded at a forum on water that took place October 2nd at Tufts University. The first presents an historical perspective of the Israeli/Palestinian water struggle by Elaine Hagopian. The second is a description by Nancy Murray of a local campaign to challenge a compact by Israel and Massachusetts to collaborate on water issues. The introduction of the speakers is by Tufts Professor Amahl Bishara, who is also a Palestinian Activist. Israel has arrogated to itself the "right" to control a vastly disproportionate fraction of water resources available in historic Palestine, leaving only drops for non-Jews. Presumably cognizant of this fact, top politicians in our very own state of Massachusetts are proposing to enter into a collaborative agreement with Israel as regards water.

War, Peace & Climate Change - Professor Michael Klare (ONE of TWO)

Nov. 3, 2015, 4:32 p.m.
This is the record of a meeting of the minds between an organization, Peace Action, that has worked for over 50 years on the abolition of nuclear weapons and war, and an activist professor. Michael Klare has written and taught on U.S. military policy, international peace and security affairs, the global arms trade, and global resource politics. The question on everybody's mind that night was - how are war and climate change related - And how can we find ways of addressing that dual danger by working on strategies of resolving both. Michael Klare is Five College professor of peace and world security studies and a prolific author. The titles of just the last three of his books clearly delineate his expertise and purpose. They are: Resource Wars (2001), Blood and Oil (2004), and The Race for What's Left (2012) Michael Klare was recorded by Dale Lehman on October 24, 2015 at the annual dinner of the Chicago Area Peace Action.

Rev. Susie's Katrina Show ch. 15: "Holy Terror!"

Nov. 3, 2015, 10:09 a.m.
[Note the new numbering: This is now a 16-episode story arc, since I mercifully whacked some crap out of it for you.] Chapter 15 opens with the Tura Satana WREK promo I never used, then shifts into screeching, nitro-fueled gear. The renegade ex-president George, once again in the hands of the violent and mysterious kidnapper Jack, lies bloody on the wet ground amid shattered hurricane debris, unconscious and caught in the grips of unreeling fever dreams: nightmares that cast light on the sickly interwoven intrigues of the Bush and Robertson dynasties; George's initial encounter with the drunken, blowsy Laura in a Midland, Texas, whorehouse; the byzantine, twisting path leading to George's theft of the 2000 presidential election; and finally, George's nightmare concludes with the real, true, authentic inside story of the 9/11 urban apocalypse as filtered through a LORD OF THE FLIES idiom, capped off with a dramatic and deadly confrontation between rival half brothers George W. Bush and Jeb Robertson Bush atop the remaining World Trade Center tower in the sliver of time before it is blasted into eternity. This means that there is JUST ONE MORE CHAPTER LEFT now.

Behind the Benghazi smokescreen

Nov. 2, 2015, 3:54 p.m.
The U.S. media has been absorbed in the great battle between Hillary Clinton and the Republicans, and the latest big issue in Benghazi: what happened, what didn't happen, and who did what. But that's all a smokescreen. Thomas Mountain (3:30) explains the much greater crime involving Benghazi, which Fox News and CNN don't want to talk about. The U.S. and friends vastly inflated the death toll in Libya, and spread lies about Gaddafi giving Viagra to his troops, all to justify the towering crime of supporting extremist groups in the overthrow of Gaddafi. Following the NATO intervention, Libya became a leading exporter of terrorism to countries such as Nigeria and Syria, in which the U.S. embassy in Benghazi was involved. Mountain has the full story, and you won't find it on CNN.

Out of the Woods - Show #291 - 11-7-15

Nov. 2, 2015, 3:50 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul
