Flint Water Crisis from the Ground Up

The Flint Water Crisis from the Ground Up
with
. Sean Crawford, a Flint resident and auto worker whose great grandfather was Vice Chair of the Flint sit-down strike
. Claire McClinton, Member of Flint Democracy Defense League
It's like living in "some sort of a dystopian novel," Sean Crawford writes, "to find National Guard troops going door to door delivering drinking water on his street. To skimp on water costs, the governor and dictatorial emergency manager exposed the whole city to lead poisoning. My hometown of Flint has been known for many things through its history. First as the birthplace of General Motors, and subsequently as the battleground of the Flint Sit-Down Strike that formed the United Auto Workers. That gave rise to a wave of union organizing across the country, and to the middle class.
The quality of life that Flint residents struggled for was once the envy of the world. More recently, Flint became famous as ground zero for the disastrous consequences of corporate globalization chronic unemployment and under-employment,increasing wealth inequality, and the violence & the destabilization that can happen in a community in which companies are allowed to destroy people s livelihoods. Whether it was out of fear of political or financial reprisal, anyone who knowingly allowed the violation of Flint citizens health and safety

Historian Rashid Khalidi responds to CAMERA's attack on Ilan Pappé
Jan. 29, 2016, 12:38 p.m.
Our feature presentation this week is a discussion between Columbia University Prof. Rashid Khalidi and journalist Will Youmans on The Journal of Palestine Studies TV. It has to do with an attack by the Zionist watchdog group CAMERA (Committee for Middle East Reporting In America) on Israeli author and Israeli historian, Ilan Pappé. CAMERA claims that Pappé inaccurately accuses former Israeli Prime Minister David Ben Gurion of ordering the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians during the 1948 military take over of Palestine and establishment of the State of Israel. Historian Rashid Khalidi defends the Pappé statement which was made in an article published in the Journal For Palestinian Studies.
What is so interesting about this attack by CAMERA is that they present themselves as a group dedicated to accurate reporting in the media, but really function as a zealous defender of Israel including its penchant to promote a mythological Israel narrative as factual reality. Here they accuse historian Pappé of what they are so adept at doing, inaccurately citing history, but the facts support Pappé, and once again CAMERA is exposed for what it isâ¦a tool of Israeli propaganda.
We present Prof. Rashid Khalidi and Will Youmans on the radio program broadcast of the Journal of Palestine Studies, which prides itself in accurate, scholarly examination of Palestinian history, and therefore was compelled to defend the Pappé article.
But first, we provide news of the BDS campaign and the amazing ways the Zionist community and its legislative errand boys are preparing to punish, blacklist, or isolate those of us who promote BDS. BDS has begun to be a serious concern for Israel's "leaders." This news comes from a wide variety of sources, which you shall hear.
And afterward, we discuss Senator Marco Rubio's strident criticism of U.S. spying on Israel, and what's really going on as regards the mutual spying scene.

Bombing Black People: The Philadelphia Police's War on Move
Jan. 29, 2016, 1:15 a.m.
Philadelphia Police launched violent assaults against the revolutionary black Nationalist group MOVE back in 1978 and again in 1985. What were their true motives, and why have they not been held accountable for the associated human rights violations?
The Global Research News Hour attempts to answer these questions with the assistance of two guests both present at the scene of the 1985 bombing.
Linn Washington is Associate Professor of Journalism at Temple University and an award-winning journalist. He was reporting from the scene when the Philadelphia Police dropped military-grade explosives on the MOVE house in 1985. Professor Washington recounts his experience of the assault and why it happened, and outline the failures of the media in holding authorities to account.
Ramona Africa is a MOVE member and the sole adult survivor of the 1985 attack. In this interview, she details her understanding of the threat MOVE posed to authorities, the injustice of police actions toward her family, and the need for urgent action to free Move members still detained after having served more than thirty years in prison for a crime she says they did not commit.

Turkey and Saudi Arabia, losing their grip on Syria
Jan. 28, 2016, 6:19 p.m.
Zafar Bangash links the US and Saudi Arabia to terrorist groups connected with ISIS and Al Queda. They are pushing to have two of these groups, Jasish al-Islam (Army of Islam) -- proven to be the real terrorists behind the East Ghouta chemical attacks in 2013, and Ahrar al-Shams (Nation of Syria), included in the current Geneva Talks. The irony of this is beyond words. It blatantly links the US to supporting terrorists.
Bangash explains the YPG, whom both Russia and Syria accept as part of the talks. The YPG is basically a Kurdish militia that is tied to the Kurdish Supreme Committee; it is armed militia operating in NE part of Syria and has liberated territory from the ISIS terrorists. Turkish President Erdogan fears the YPG might link up with the Kurdish groups in Turkey. He does not want them included in the Geneva talks for fear that it would increase their status and thereby enhance the stature of the Kurds in Turkey, particularly the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party).

Revenant - from a Canadian Point of View
Jan. 28, 2016, 6:12 p.m.
Robin Philpot praises celebrated Canadian actor, Roy Dupuis, for objecting to the movie Revenant for its portrayal of French fur-trappers as violent and racist. Philpot pointed out Dupuis has turned down the part of the trapper Toussaint, because the producers would not let him read the script. Dupuis has said French trappers in the âAmerican Westâ were the dominant group and had been accepted by Native Americans much more readily because they came for trade in furs and not for land. The development of Metis communities was a result of this policy. A new book is soon to be published by Baraka Books which will document the role of French trappers/traders and put to rest myths about Americaâs Anglo-supremacist hero trappers as found in this ultra-violent dishonest film, Revenant.
Samantha Power-outage in Burundi
Jan. 28, 2016, 5:59 p.m.
Le Beni Tazira critiques the Samantha Power-led UN Security Council Delegation to Burundi as one as an embarrassment for her and a win for the Burundi government. Tazira describes Power as seeming to have an agenda born out of hate against Hutu, whom she seems to categorize as genocidaires.
The delegation was met by peaceful protestors with signs reading "No Genocide in Burundi," "Stop Interfering" and "Respect Our Security Forces."
President Nkurunziza asked the delegation the key question: Are you going to sanction Rwanda and stop the flow of weapons from Rwanda?
