AN INJURY TO ONE

Oct. 10, 2015, 8:37 p.m.
TOPIC: Enlightened analysis of Syria and Sanders, etc As Brother Ajamu points out in this interview, citizens of the US, for the most part, feel no solidarity with those outside our borders. Some are willing to trade the lives/livelihoods of those outside the US borders for campaign promises of mild reform. The mantra of the Wobblies, "An Injury to One is an Injury to All" does not just apply to worker solidarity, but international solidarity with other human beings on this increasingly smaller planet we share.

I invited these three friends on The Soapbox after they wrote a LETTER to the organization Veterans for Peace asking for clarifications after VFP made a public STATEMENT about transgender. Almost immediately, after I wrote a message of support for the quest of Cheryl, Lisa, and Anita, I was attacked with much vitriol as you will hear in the show. This is a discussion about radical feminism, queer theory, male supremacy, sexism, transgender politics, sexual assault in the military, and safe spaces for all.

OUR Walmart, which has already won a wage increase for some 500,000 Walmart workers is on the move and along with its new allies, Demos, the Restaurant Opportunities Center, Color of Change, Domestic Workers Alliance and Jobs With Justice, among others is launching a mass campaign for a $15 an hour wage for all associates; consistent, full-time hours for its employees; to end unfair coachings and terminations; and for Walmart to address racial justice, women s rights and to address climate change. We are standing up against Walmart because we are fighting for $15/hour and 40 hours a week, said Wanda Banks, a Walmart worker from Louisiana. If I had $15 an hour & 40 hours/week I would be able to pay off a lot of my bills " I could sleep better at night without tossing & turning. I have a granddaughter that I need to get through college. So that would help me in a great and awesome way. We re standing up to Walmart to stop retaliating against workers that speak out, said Janet Sparks, a Walmart worker from Louisiana.

With a nuclear deal being signed between the major powers and Iran over the summer, and now Russia joining the fight against ISIS/ISIL terrorists, we examine the geopolitical maneuvering currently taking place around Iran and Syria. We start with former Selwyn College Commonwealth Scholar and current senior Scholar at RMIT University Binoy Kampmark. During an in-studio discussion which took place in early October, we discussed the hawkish policy orientation of the Harper government, Russia's recent involvement in the war on ISIS/ISIL, the concept of humanitarian intervention, and the Canadian government's peculiar departure from the US and other traditional allies with regard to the Iranian nuclear deal. In the second half hour, Sociologist, and award-winning author and geopolitical analyst Mahdi Nazemroaya explains how the Iranian nuclear deal reflects a failure of the international sanctions regime, and an attempt to re-orient aggressive policies against Russia.
