#714 - Sowing Dragon's Teeth From the Cold War to The JCIT

Aug. 28, 2015, 7:44 a.m.
Unnoticed and unreported at the time, the July 1979 Jerusalem Conference on International Terrorism was a seminal event in the history of the "War On Terror". Organised by Benjamin Netanyahu, speakers included George H. W. Bush, Brian Crozier and some of his friends from Le Cercle, academics and deep state actors met to discuss and spin the yarn of the "global war on terror". We begin with a speech on the USA's sponsorship and conscious radicalization of terrorist groups by Nafeez Ahmed and read the first half of an article by Brian Bogart, entitled Sins of Statecraft: The War on Terror Exposed.

The Climate Deception Dossiers - Our Common Future Part FOUR

Aug. 25, 2015, 9:39 p.m.
In July 2015 the Union of Concerned Scientists published the Climate Deception Dossiers. After years of research, whistle-blowing and Freedom of Information Requests a truly sordid picture emerges of fossil fuel corporations internally admitting that climate change is real while at the same time spending millions of dollars to buy scientists who say climate change is a hoax. These bought-off scientists and politicians make statements such as: the sun makes things warmer, not humans or CO2 - and anyway CO2 is good for you and agriculture. The Deception Dossiers report the theft of letterheads of reputable organizations such as the NAACP and the American Association of University Women. Forged letters that were mailed to members of Congress, claiming to be from non-profits that advocate for the well-being of women, minorities, children, seniors, and veterans, and urging defeat of legislations to protect the climate or undermining efforts at international climate treaties. The Deception Dossiers show how millions of dollars are still being used on advertising campaigns to spread misinformation and to fund efforts of organization such as ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council. Prominent among the Climate Deception organizations is the Heartland Institute They are openly facing off against the Inter Governmental Panel on Climate Change, the IPCC, by having created their own organization in 2013. It is the NON-Governmental Panel on Climate Change, the NIPCC. The Heartland's most recent salvo was an attack on Pope Francis and his appeal in the Encyclical to halt climate change. The program is interspersed with excerpts of news items from FOX and Rush Limbaugh that are being circulated via the Heartland Institute web site.

Failed US Procedural Democracy for the 1% Exemplified in US Relations with North Korea and Cuba

Aug. 25, 2015, 7:58 p.m.
Stephen Gowans discusses his three recent articles, each reflecting the hypocrisy of US brand of democracy and all the tricks that are played. (Articles in order presented on the show) 1. "US - South Korea Exploiting DMZ Mine Incident to Divert Attention from Anti-N Korea Provocations," August 18: The recent DPRK landmines that severed the legs of South Koren soldiers before the US/South Korea threatening annual August war games started are being blamed on North Korea, even though the most likely explanation is that flooding caused landmines to drift, as in 2010 when dozens were killed by floating land mines at the N-S border. Gowans explains the US has 30,000 US troops in South Korea and 45,000 more in nearby Japan, and that South Korea is the only country in the world where a foreign (US) military has operational control over its armed forces. South Korea has also set up powerful speakers at the border to broadcast propaganda lies into North Korea. It is Orwellian. 2. "Cuba's Low Level of Internet Use: Not a Policy of Restricting the Flow of Information," August 22. Stephen Gowans uses World Bank data to show that Cuba (30 users per 100 people in 2014) is on par with other economically challenged countries regarding Internet usage. For example, Cuba is on par with Egypt (32) and El Salvador (30) and greater than Guatemala (23), Honduras (19), India (18), and Haiti (11). Cuba's low usage has nothing to do with a Communist state suppressing dissent, but everything to do with its economic situation which has been devastated by the US blockade, possibly by a trillion dollars. 3. "The Dung Heap of Procedural Democracy," August 18 Gowans challenges economist and NY Times columnist Paul Krugman's partisan bias of mentioning only the Republicans as part of the money driven dung heap political system. According to Gowans, Krugman condemns the wealthy dominating politics in the US, but he does not understand that "What he is doing is rediscovering what people who have worked in a Marxist tradition have been talking about for decades if not over a century."

Bulletin Board August 24

Aug. 25, 2015, 7:53 p.m.
Topics: Olive Senior, Author of acclaimed book, Dying to Better Themselves: West Indians and the Building of the Panama Canal, had to delay interview due to family responsibilities. The Taylor Report hopes to have interview within next two weeks. Black Lives Matter (BLM): Movement is capturing people's imagination. Reminds him of SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) with different chapters working at different awareness levels, sometimes different focus on issues and sometimes having conflicting tactics. BLM meeting with Hillary Clinton needs to be analyzed. Black Agenda Report (BAR) analyzes the encounter and addresses issue of politicians exploiting people to get the vote. Phil Conlon refers to an article that catalogs all 2015 shootings of Black Americans by the police --47 states had at least one fatal shooting. Phil Taylor summaries Stephen Gowans recent articles re North/South Korea/USA latest controversy, the downside of procedural democracy and why Cuba has limited access to the Internet. Gowans' very interesting and facts-on-the-table with great analysis interview is second half of show. Roy Jones, former world-champion boxer, visited with Putin in the Crimea and asked Putin for a passport for the purpose of doing business. Phil gives a very intriguing account of that visit and continues with wide range of boxing facts --from Roy Jones' accomplishments to Benny Leonard, greatest lightweight fighter who was a master of "ring generalship" --gaining control of the ring via boxing without throwing a punch, which throws the other boxer off when he cannot land a punch. Phil Conlon makes a very apt political analogy comparing President Putin to a "ring general," especially in UN negotiations. Taylor elaborates on that analogy.
