Voter Suppression in Canada: Conversations with Lesley Hughes and Michael Keefer
Oct. 15, 2015, 3:24 p.m.
On the occasion of the October 19 Canadian Federal election, two political observers share their perspectives on contemporary efforts on the part of the powerful to deliberately manipulate and jury-rig elections to their benefit.
First, we hear from Lesley Hughes, an award-winning Winnipeg-based journalist and broadcaster who ran as a political candidate in 2008 and was quickly ousted after a past article she had written was mis-interpreted as "anti-semitic" 9/11 conspiracy theory. Lesley Hughes who is authoring a book about her experience, talks about this ejection of candidates as part of a deliberate strategy which, enabled and complemented by social media, effectively corrupts the democratic process.
Michael Keefer, an Emeritus Professor of Literary Studies from the University of Guelph, has been researching and analyzing electoral interference in the 2011 Canadian Federal election and in a multi-part essay being written for Rabble.ca, establishes that through telephone fraud and under-investigation by Elections Canada and the RCMP, amounted to a State Crime Against Democracy.
Keefer shares his analysis in the second half hour.

#721 - Analysing The Mind-numbing Orwellian Contradictions
Oct. 15, 2015, 6:38 a.m.
Why was the "Je suis Charlie" celebration of free speech event followed by the biggest crackdown on free speech in French history? Kevin Barrett describes it as a "mind-numbering Orwellian contradiction, a lot like what happened after 9-11 when we were told that 'The reason they attacked us was they hate our freedoms' so let's destroy freedoms, let's shred the bill or rights, pass the Patriot Act and lock down the country." We consider the Israeli angle of Islamophobia induced by the "Moslem terrorist" meme promoted by the commercially-controlled media.

The Melting Arctic Sea Ice, Professor Peter Wadhams
Oct. 13, 2015, 8:50 p.m.
Only days before Professor Wadhams set off on his 2015 research voyage to the Arctic the UK blogger Nick Breeze did an interview with him, asking him about the latest data on the disappearing Arctic sea ice.
At the end of September 2015 we had just heard on the news that the sea ice minimum at the end of the Arctic summer was the fourth lowest on record. It stands at about half of the ice that used to cover the same area.
Peter Wadhams is Professor of Ocean Physics at the University of Cambridge, UK. With over 40 years of research on Arctic sea ice, icebergs and polar oceanography, he is considered one of the leading experts in his field.
Wadhams argues that summer sea ice in the Arctic is in rapid and irreversible retreat. His findings stand in stark contrast to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change computer models that claim that Arctic summer sea ice will not disappear until 2050 or even 2100.
Professor Wadhams explains that this is based on serious errors in computer modeling and predicts an ice free Arctic summer ocean by 2020 with very few remnants of sea ice along some coastal zones and blocking channels in the North West Passage.
He also comments on methane releases, the Polar Vortex, the Jet Stream and the already apparent effects on weather, including anomalous droughts, ice and storms.
