Former AIPAC Operative Speaks Out, So Does Former Congressman

Aug. 12, 2015, 5:21 p.m.
In this episode we continue our coverage of the Conference on the Israeli Lobby that was held at the National Press Club in Washington DC in April, 2015. We will hear from former AIPAC operative and Congressional staffer MJ Rosenberg who came to see the light and is now a sharp critic of AIPAC, and former 38 year Congressman from West Virginia, Nick Rahall. Exposing the tactics of the Israeli Lobby is critical to challenging the mythology and disinformation campaigns that drive the Israeli narrative, and that is exactly what we must be doing to change the attitudes of Americans, particularly in Congress, concerning the Palestine/Israel issue. First up is MJ Rosenberg, followed by former Congressman Nick Rahall.

Inside Obama's Clean Power Plan

Aug. 11, 2015, 6:43 p.m.
President Obama announced a bold new climate plan last week. The plan is being widely heralded by environmental advocates, but, perhaps unsurprisingly, pilloried by coal states and fossil fuel companies who are actively mounting legal challenges. This week on Sea Change Radio we talk with two environmental reporters, Alex Guillén from Politico and Tim McDonnell of Mother Jones. They provide an overview of the climate plan and its goals, discuss some political and legal responses, and talk about how it may be viewed globally as we anticipate the UN Climate Summit in Paris.

Our Common Future Under Climate Change, Part THREE - Professor Kevin Anderson

Aug. 11, 2015, 6:24 p.m.
Professor Anderson says that we need to immediately begin a drastic scale down of carbon emissions to prevent a collapse of the climate system. The Copenhagen Accord of 2010 stated that the increase in global temperature needs to be held below 2 degrees Celsius in order to avoid dangerous climate change. Anderson says that by postponing carbon reduction we are already on our way to a 4 degree Celsius warming. In advanced economies, a reduction of emissions of between 80-95% from the 1990 baseline is needed, according to a Tyndall Centre working paper. And as much as half of the world’s proven reserves of all fossil fuels will need to be left in the ground if we are to avoid the worst effects of climate change. Among the 2000 delegates who came to Paris in July 2015 to discuss the physical, economic and social aspects of climate change was Kevin Anderson. He is professor of energy and climate change at the University of Manchester, UK. This meeting was held in preparation for the COP meeting, also in Paris in December 2015, at which, finally, a global binding agreement on emissions needs to be signed and implemented. Kevin Anderson's talk in Paris received a lot of attention. However the organizers did not include it among the posts on their web-site. Anderson's voice is crucial for his expertise and his courage to express unpopular opinions. This is an in depth interview by Mike Coe, UK, produced in January 2015.

Through the torments of the mysterious kidnapper Jack, George, his screams echoing through the blighted swamps, encounters his own Beast face to face in a forced-sodomy fest of epic proportions. The anal agonies trigger another flashback that reveals the twisted workings of the Bush Dynasty, punctuated by an Orwellian examination of the application of war as social control.

Black Lives Matter in Toronto

Aug. 11, 2015, 1:15 p.m.
Sandra Hudson, a determined justice activist and co-founder of Black Lives Matter Toronto, decries the lack of any type of punishment for the police officers who shoot down innocent Blacks. They often find that these police officers have previously committed similar crimes with no punishment. Hudson discusses the two main cases in Toronto: (1) Jermaine Carby, shot and killed by Peel police during a traffic stop two months earlier (2) Andrew Loku, gunned down by police officers in front of an apartment building last September. BLM wants public accountability and to make sure that the public is protected against discrimination and murder.

Ishmael Reed, The Complete Muhammad Ali

Aug. 11, 2015, 1:11 p.m.

Phil Taylor compares Ishmael Reed's book, The Complete Muhammad Ali, to a grand jury where Reed, the judge, is taking a lot of evidence from people who know what they are talking about but do not always agree. Reed discusses the reality and the tactics of "black tokenism." Reed, who is popular in foreign countries, is minimized by the American press, where he says he is treated like a journeyman fighter on the way down.

Out of the Woods - Show #279 - 8-15-15

Aug. 10, 2015, 7:11 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Forum on Hazards of Cellphones and other Wireless Technology

Aug. 10, 2015, 2:30 p.m.
On June 10, 2015, a distinguished group of five very special speakers got together to help inform Massachusetts legislators and the general public on a subject most people don't want to hear nowadays: the hazards of wireless technology. Yes, it's a drag. The problem is that there really are hazards, and because wireless tech has been sold very effectively to nearly every American, it's important to review the information with great care. Wireless technology currently includes cellphones, smartphones, iphones, cordless phones, tablets, laptops, "smart" utility meters, etc. It goes on to include baby monitors, GPS, garage door openers, toys, and a growing list. Each speaker dealt with a different facet of the problem. Like smokers, users who are not in denial seem to be resigned to getting cancer after a while, and this doesn't bother them, even as they provide cellphones to their children! They might be surprised to learn about the addiction aspect, explained by our first speaker. The fact that cellphones foster addiction, just like computer games and other screen-based gadgets, should be obvious. What is less obvious is that cellphones are being given to very young children, and what this is doing to the development (or non-development) of their human sensitivities, including empathy and morality. The entire event, and the respective speakers, are each preceded by an introduction of some sort. We have provided separate audio files, two for overall introductions and one for each speaker. A couple of the speakers wandered away from our mikes. We are indebted to Jim Rizoli of Framingham, MA for access to his video recording using a different mike. Here are details from the event's original announcement: Radiation - An Important Discussion for Parents Questioning the Safety of Our Children’s exposure to Wireless Many parents are unaware that wireless devices being sold, marketed and in use in schools today use microwaves, the same as your microwave oven. Your devices such as cordless phones, Wi-Fi, smart meters and the cell tower outside your window are effectively functioning as low-level, constantly-emitting, microwave transmitters. Learn more about what possible health risks children face when they are constantly exposed to continued wireless radiation throughout the day, including public places. Issues to be discussed: - Studies that reveal the health risks involved with constant exposures - Health risk associated with devices including brain and reproductive organs - Impact on memory and social skills - Dangers of "Digital Dementia" and the rise of “Zombies” Implications of Current Science for Policy: Lawmakers across our globe are developing safety rules. Similar to the global trend in laws around seat belts, lawn-pesticides, second hand smoke and tanning beds, these laws are designed to protect the public from emerging technologies that eventually reveal emerging evidence of potential harm. Learn more about what is being done around the world, including Canada and France, and what other municipalities are doing, including historic unanimous passage of "Cell Phone Right to Know Ordinance" by the Berkeley City Council. Meet the panel [not in order of presentation]: Dr. Devra Davis, PhD - Founder of the Environmental Health Trust and Award-Winning scientist and author of Disconnect -- the Truth About Cell Phone Radiation Catherine Steiner-Adair - Ed. D, Clinical Psychologist, Consultant, Speaker, and Author of The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age Dr. R.S. Sharma, Senior Deputy Director General & Scientist - G, Indian Council of Medical Research. A leader of the Indian federal government research on the public health and environmental impacts of mobile phones and other wireless devices Frank Clegg, CEO of Canadians for Safe Technology (C4ST) and former longtime president of Microsoft Canada [ADD: Janet Newton, President of the EMR Policy Institute] Massachusetts State House Briefing Room 437 Wednesday, June 10th , 2015, 2-3 PM EST Excerpts from reporting of Steiner-Adair's presentation: " . . .children today are gazing into a screen 7 to 11 hours a day, more than any other activity in their life, and one out of seven sets of parents allow their infants and toddlers to have screen time for up to four hours a day." .......[Steiner-Adair] called it the "Magic of the iPad," but said those devices are neurological stimulants and society needs to stop denying the ramifications. "Adults may joke they are 'so addicted' to their smartphones, yet they give children the same devices and are really psychologically dependent." "They function in our lives like little blankies do for children." "In children, the devices are causing deficits in language development [and social and moral development] and their capacity for frustration and self-soothing."
