Happy Camp Casey Day: 10 Years After

Aug. 10, 2015, 10:20 a.m.
Today is the 10th anniversary of when we first marched down Prairie Chapel Road in Crawford TX so I could demand a meeting with then US president George Bush to ask him "What Noble Cause" murdered my son and hundred of thousands of others. Of course, George Bush didn't meet with me, so we sat in the ditch on Prairie Chapel Road (where we found shade) and set up what became known as Camp Casey (named after by son by Iraq vets who were with me that day). Since that day 10 years ago, I have worked tirelessly for peace and justice (IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY), but the wars continue because many activists pledge allegiance to, not peace or humanity, but partisan politics. My good friend and fellow podcaster Jon Gold interviews me about Camp Casey, 10 years after. Please listen to this show with many insider anecdotes and setting the record straight about the wonderful 25 days of Camp Casey in August of 2005.

Sean Swain speaks his piece on the recent drug delivery via drone, which occurred on July 29 at the Mansfield Correctional Institution some 65 miles southwest of Cleveland, OH. Resist450 in St. Augustine this Sept & ARadio on #ReclaimTheFields (for Food Sovereignty & Prison Abolition)

Aug. 9, 2015, 12:44 p.m.
This week we spoke with Bobby C. Billie and Shannon Larsen of the Resist 450 Coalition. This coalition is set up to protest the so called "450th Commemoration" Celebration to be held in St Augustine FL at the beginning of September, which will mark the 450th anniversary of the settling of that city by Juan Ponce de Leon and Pedro Menendez, colonizers from Spain. In this interview we talk about indigenous struggle in St Augustine, the Doctrine of Discovery, the Action Camp which will occur on September 5th thru 8th, and more! To get involved with the Action Camp, or to donate to this cause, you can see all the information you'll need at http://resist450.org Additionally this week also we have audio from our comrades at ARadio Berlin! Anarchist Radio Berlin, which can be found at http://aradio.blogsport.de, did this interview with a UK-based organizer from the Reclaim the fields initiative, and they talk about the planned international camp in North-Wales, the relationship of food sovereignty and the prison system, and the topic of prison abolition as such. You can send these folks feedback and comments at: aradio-berlin@riseup.net Thanks to these comrades for sharing this audio! Stay tuned for more from ARadio Berlin next week. In a bit of news, the trial of the Tarnac 10 is set to begin soon, minus the charges of "Terrorist Association." The Tarnac case stems back to 2009 in Tarnac, France, the site of a farm commune on which 9 folks were arrested and accused of attempting sabotage on a high speed rail line. The case allegedly also linked the arrested, including Julian Coupat and Yildune Lévy, to the publishing group, The Invisible Commitee. The Invisible Commitee, which recently published "To Our Friends" is in the lineage of Tiqqun magazine, of which Coupat was a founder. http://www.anarchistnews.org/content/tarnac-eight-sent-trial-without-des... A Virginian Anarchist by the name of Stephen Loughman was arrested a week after attending the anti-KKK rally in Columbia, SC, on July 18th. Stephen's cellphone was dropped and he was arrested when he attempted to pick it up from the department of Sheriff Leon Lott. Stephen Loughman's being accused attempting to incite hatred against the KKK, yelling profanity at the white supremacists and being in traffic. He's being smeared in local media and by the Sheriff of being a career troublemaker who was attempting to incite the crowd to riot. He sounds like a pretty stand-up guy to us. You can find out more and support Stephen by visiting http://gofundme.com/e6b3tukuc . More at https://itsgoingdown.org/virginia-anarchist-arrested-week-sc-anti-klan-r... Revolutionary History

Aug. 9, 2015, 11:47 a.m.
In this episode of Back in the USSR we examine the importance of history to revolutionary struggle and why the desire for "a better future" is not enough. Every successful revolutionary movement in history has seen itself in the context of a tradition of resistance spanning multiple generations. One of the reasons why many African-American radical movements, for example, have been so successful is because they are made up of people who know who they are, they know their history, they know who has historically oppressed them, and they know who their enemy is. Of course everyone wants a better future, but such a future can only be built out of a tradition of resistance to exploitation and oppression, a tradition of struggle. Movements that lack this understanding are not sustainable.

Rev. Susie's Katrina Epic, Ch. 3: "Let Slip the Dogs of *WAAUGGH!"

Aug. 7, 2015, 11:50 p.m.
Chapter 3 of my 17-episode Hurricane Katrina Saga! Bored with his Santeria chicken-choking and canine sex rituals with his butt-buddy Michael Brown of FEMA, circumstances force George to fake being presidential just long enough to survey the hurricane devastation over cocktails from the windows of Air Force One. But a plot twist monkeywrenches his silver-spoon existence into the shitcan--the president's plane has been hijacked by radicals who nosedive it into the ravaged bayous, slamming George's ass right smack in the swamps where his horrific personal opera of violence and retribution is about to begin. Just think of it as LORD OF THE FLIES...but with more flies.

Ta-Nehisi Coates, Reads from His Block-Buster Memoir Between the World and Me

Aug. 7, 2015, 3:05 p.m.
Ta-Nehisi Coates, Reads from His Block-Buster Memoir to His Son Between the World and Me Readers of his work in The Atlantic (including his June 2014 feature The Case for Reparations) and elsewhere know Ta-Nehisi Coates for his thoughtful and influential writing on race in America. Written as a series of letters to his teenaged son, his new memoir, Between the World and Me, walks us through the course of his life, from the neighborhoods of Baltimore in his youth, to Howard University "which Coates dubs The Mecca for its revelatory community of black students and teachers "to the broader Meccas of New York and Paris. Coates describes his observations and the evolution of his thinking on race, from Malcolm X to his conclusion that race itself is a fabrication, elemental to the concept of American (white) exceptionalism. Ferguson, Trayvon Martin, and South Carolina are not bumps on the road of progress and harmony, but the results of a systemized, ubiquitous threat to black bodies in the form of slavery, police brutality, and mass incarceration. Coates is direct and, as usual, uncommonly insightful and original.

#388 -- Taken for a Ride - Part 1

Aug. 7, 2015, 10:12 a.m.
How General Motors destroyed America's light-rail transit systems and created the Highway Lobby. That forced Americans to buy cars, build millions of miles of new road, and suffer the bad results. This week: How GM bought up and intentionally destroyed city trolley systems, replacing the clean and rapid streetcars (which people loved) with slow, crowded, polluting diesel buses. GM built the buses and secretly owned the bus-line companies, but their real goal was to force people to buy cars.

Aug. 7, 2015, 8:58 a.m.

The lead attorney, Piper Hendricks shares her frustration. We conclude with an interview of Toni Bark, host of "Bought, The Movie" on regulatory capture by big pharma of CDC and the difficulty of assessment of the health risks of vaccines in light of the huge amounts of money involved.

Angela Davis in Solidarity With Rasmea Odeh

Aug. 6, 2015, 8:32 p.m.
Angela Davis spoke at a solidarity event for Rasmea Odeh, a prominent organizer and leader in the Palestinian community who has been singled out by the Federal Department of Justice for selective prosecution on a 20 year old immigration form issue; it;s part of the Governments Zionist influenced attempt to destroy support for the BDS movement due to it's growing success. Angela Davis speaks of her own selective prosecution years back by the FBI and Justice Department whose racist leadership was terrified of Black empowerment. She reads an open letter of solidarity she received from James Baldwin, who committed himself to struggle for justice on her behalf. Angela Davis had flown that day to the event from Ferguson, Missouri where she spent time with the people protesting the murder of Mike Brown. She speaks about the activism there and its historic mark in sparking the movement to end police impunity for murdering black men and women and the world wide attention that their struggle has generated. She speaks of the linkage that State violence has created between the Palestinian and Black communities. She is introduced by the activist, author and scholar Professor Barbra Ransby. An article Professor Ransby had written, mentioned by Angela Davis during her comments is here:http://www.colorlines.com/articles/ella-taught-me-shattering-myth-leaderless-movement Mike Wilson performs has rap "What if I was White" which is later mentioned by Professor Davis. Rasmea Odeh speaks of her history growing up under the colonial settler occupation of Palestine by Israel and its similarity to the oppression experienced by Blacks in the United States. She speaks elegantly of the struggle for justice.
