This week, Part 2 takes us from the founding of OPEC in 1960 to the Iraq Wars and the present.. No matter what happens, Big Oil comes out ahead. Introduction by K.D.

Prof. Barbara Ransby and Ali Abunimah discuss 'The Battle for Justice in Palestine

July 23, 2015, 9:41 a.m.
The Battle for Justice in Palestine (Haymarket, 2014): Professor Barbara Ransby discusses this recent book with its author, Ali Abunimah. Perhaps the most important message in this book is that the so-called "2-state solution" touted by Obusha, Kerry, Killary, et al, can never happen, and it wouldn't be a solution anyway. A bona fide democratic one-state solution must prevail. Ali Abu Nimah, prominent journalist, author, and co-founder of the Electronic Intifada converses here with University of Illinois Professor of History, writer, and political activist Barbara Ransby. They discuss the ideas in this remarkable book. From Amazon: "In this essential work, journalist Ali Abunimah takes a comprehensive look at the shifting tides of the politics of Palestine and the Israelis in a neoliberal world—and makes a compelling and surprising case for why the Palestine solidarity movement just might win." From firstlook's The Intercept: "Like most of what he writes and says, Ali Abunimah’s new book, The Battle for Justice in Palestine, is provocative, erudite, impassioned, aggressive, and certain to make even some political allies uncomfortable with their tacitly held beliefs (beginning with the book’s very first sentence: “The Palestinians are winning”). One need not agree with all of his views to find the book well worth reading. So much ink has been spilled on Israel and Palestine that at times it seems impossible to encounter anything new or stimulating, but the arguments Abunimah assembles here are so thoughtful and forceful, and placed within a comprehensive, long-cultivated coherent perspective, that it’s almost impossible to read it without thinking about all sorts of old questions in new ways. That this outlook is so rarely heard in Western establishment media circles makes it all the more valuable." From Haymarket (the publisher): "Efforts to achieve a “two-state solution” have finally collapsed; the struggle for justice in Palestine is at a crossroads. As Israel and its advocates lurch toward greater extremism, many ask where the struggle is headed. This book offers a clear analysis of this crossroads moment and looks forward with urgency down the path to a more hopeful future."
