Rev. Susie the Floozie's "Post X-Day" Classic
July 12, 2015, 8:44 p.m.
After our promised global apocalypse and sci-fi sexual redemption did not materialize on July 5, 1998, I poured out my blistered feelings into this show. But the crushing disappointment gave way to a rhapsodic epiphany of joyous hope when I realized what we truly had left--and it was Slack abounding.
With Janis Joplin wailing her "Kozmic Blues" so sweet and hot that it can bring you to tears, this is my manifesto on what it really means what it is to be a SubGenius.

This week we spoke with members of Maharlika Integral Emergence, a collective in Davao. Davao is a large city in the south east of the archipelago of Maharlika, also known as The Philippines. We talk for the hour on the emergence of anarchism in this country, anti-colonial indigenous struggle, anarcho-punk, eco-resistance, green and post-anarchism, permaculture,anti-extraction and land struggles and more. Maharlika Integral Emergence is a collective in Davao working with communities to promote self-care, explore autonomy, build alternatives to the deadly duo of State and Capital and it's ecocidal path. We apologize for the quality of the audio, at times it becomes difficult to hear the collective members due to tech issues. Check out ashevillefm.org/the-final-staw to find the blog entry for this episode which includes hyperlinks to some of the projects and publications coming out of Maharlika. For instance, https://unitedmedianetwork.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/mie-updates-2014-2015.pdf shows a pdf about projects that that MIE are involved in.

A reminder: The Klu Klux Klan has called for a rally at the steps of the state capitol of South Carolina in Colombia on Saturday the 18th at 3pm. Folks are planning a counter-demonstration on the day to make it known that these jokers are not welcome in the streets. Check out http://columbiascdemocallout.tumblr.com/ for more info, or follow them on their twitter handle, @antiracistSC. From their site:
"On Saturday, July 18th, the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan will assemble on the statehouse grounds in Columbia, SC. And we will confront them.
This rally is part of a recent wave of anti-Black terror, from the Charleston massacre to the arson of Black churches, that has strategically sought to build upon a white racist backlash against the #BlackLivesMatter, anti-police uprisings of the past year.
We call upon all those who can #BlackLivesMatter activists, community organizers, anti-racists, anarchists and other radicals, and anyone else furious with racism and the policeâto converge on Columbia, confront the Klan, and defy their message of white supremacy. History has shownâfrom the armed standoff against a lynch mob in Columbia, TN, in 1946 to the 1958 Battle of Hayes Pond, from the Deacons for Defense to the armed defiance of Monroe,NCâs NAACP chapter, from the 1979 Greensboro Massacre to the 1997 confrontation with the Klan in downtown Asheville, NCâthat we must oppose white supremacist organizing actively and physically, in our streets and neighborhoods.
The KKK is only a small group, whose ability to inflict racist violence actually pales in comparison to that of structures of oppression like the police, the economy, and the state. But the sentiment that groups like the KKK hold runs deep through the currents of whiteness in this country, and is a major obstacle to our struggles against these larger structures. Explicit manifestations of white supremacy like the Klan are one way that the state will seek to contain the #BlackLivesMatter organizing and anti-police riots of the last year; at this historic juncture, a large Klan rally in the South cannot go unchallenged.
Bring banners, bring a friend, and bring your anger and rage against the white supremacy that courses through the veins of this society. See you in Columbia."

Expressive Therapist Khitam Edelbi's Dream Becomes a Reality
July 11, 2015, 9:26 a.m.
This week in the feature presentation, we discuss a dream that became a reality under the most difficult circumstances in Palestine. The dreamer, Khitam Edelbi, is an expressive therapist, a graduate of Lesley University, who has returned to the Boston area from East Jerusalem to share her remarkable story and hopefully raise some needed funds to broaden her work with children, teachers and parents living under occupation. Khitam has been on This Week In Palestine before talking about her dream, but this is the first time she has been on since her dream became a reality.
Before that, we begin this week with an analysis by the independent journalist, Jonathan Cook, who lives and works in Nazareth. His concern: the perpetual fear mongering of Benjamin Netanyahu. Here he writes: (Jonathan Cook article).
Also: We often refer to Israel as an apartheid state, where Jim Crow style discrimination is practiced against the Palestinian people, and are often taken to task by Zionists who accuse us of exaggeration or worse. So from time to time we just cite incidents and facts that we think make the apartheid case. Here is a Mondoweiss article based on a report by the Israeli human rights organization BâTselem. It is a report on how Israelâs discriminatory policies are imposed even into the West Bank area A, which, theoretically, is under the control of the Palestinian Authority, not Israel. Here is how the Israeli military expelled 200 Palestinians from a pool in their own village to allow Israeli settlers to bathe in a segregated situation. (Mondoweiss report).
Mexican Farm Workers Struggle in Historical Strike in Baja California

Mexican Farm Workers Struggle in Historic Strike
with
. Al Rojas, a Founding Member of the United Farm Workers; current Pres. , Sacramento Labor Council for Latin American Advancement
(AFL-CIO)
. Eduardo Rosario, Executive Board Member, NYC Chapter, Labor Council for Latin American Advancement
Mexican farm workers in the San Quintin Valley of the state of Baja California are calling for international action to support their demands for decent wages and an end to labor abuses by international produce companies that operate through-out Mexico primarily for export to the US under the label of Driscoll s. More than 33,000 farm workers declared a historic strike in late March which stopped work at peak harvest and have continued their protests ever since waging intermittent strikes and road blocks and mass mobilizations which have extended to workers in Washington State. They compare their working conditions to those that existed during the colonial period with workdays of more than 15 hours . The San Quintin Valley is a major producer of fruits and vegetables that are exported primarily to the United States. Workers here pick as many as 160 kilos a day that sell for more than $2,000, while the workers make on average US$7 a day. The workers are demanding a base salary of at least $13 for every 8-hour workday as well as recognition by companies and union officials.

Paying For Endless Wars
July 10, 2015, 3:42 p.m.
Ever since 9/11 America has fought an endless war on terror, seeking enemies everywhere. James Risen reveals the shocking corruption, waste and abuse of our metastasizing Homeland Security Industrial complex.
From the bankrupting of the American taxpayer to the moral bankruptcy of the state, James details the price Americans are paying for the war on terror. He was interviewed by Francesca Rheannon. Power corrupts, but it is endless wars that corrupt absolutely.
James Risen has worked for The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. He is the author or co-author of two books about the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and a book about the American public debate about abortion. Risen is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner.
