Saint Valentine Massacres AGAIN!
Feb. 8, 2015, 10:17 p.m.
I wanted to counter the sickeningly candycoated sentimentality of Valentine's Day, but I tapped into such deep inner voodoo doing this show that afterward I felt like I'd been savaged. Its soundwaves are pure razorwire to me, but it won't consume your soul. With music by Lene Lovich, Wanda Jackson with the Cramps, Pearl Bailey, Barnes & Barnes, King Uszniewicz and His Uszniewicztones, The Spears, Patty Duke, Drive-Thru Romance, the Pajama Slave Dancers, Walter freakin' Brennan, the Bobs, Lil Hardin Armstrong, and King Missile. Enjoy.

Hungerstruck: 02-08-2015
Feb. 8, 2015, 12:38 p.m.
This week, Sean Swain, talks about his continued hunger strike which he plans to escalate tonight by denying his hypertension medication (which could kill him in a few days). Sean Swain on his hunger strike; Operacion Pandora update from Spain; North American Anarchist Studies Conference 2015
Feb. 8, 2015, 12:29 p.m.
This week: Sean Swain announces that he's escalating his hunger strike and will begin denying his hypertension medication this evening. This could put him in dire danger, he could die within a few days. This protest is in response to the administration at OSP & ODRC selectively denying his access to communicate with his supporters, in particular with Ben Turk via the jpay video chat. From his support page:
"Sean needs support right now. Rick Kerger, his lawyer is filing a restraining order preventing the ODRC from cancelling future video visits. There are three things you can do.
1. Call OSP Warden Forshay and demand that he meet with Sean in good faith and negotiate a reversal of the ODRC policy of f**king with Sean on flimsy pretexts. 330-743-0700. Ext. 2006.
2. Write Sean a letter, or even better, request a video visit yourself. The first step is getting approved as a visitor, using this form. The more communication we send Seanâs way, the more of their time theyâll have to waste fucking with him. Sean often says âtheyâll get tired of killing me before I get tired of dying.â Letâs make sure heâs right.
Seanâs address:
Sean Swain
OSP 243-205
878 Coitsville-Hubbard Rd
Youngstown OH 44505
3. Call ODRC Investigator Paul Schumacher, who cancelled Seanâs video visits, and say whatever you want to his voicemail. 614-728-1152"

Then, we hear from Andrew Hoyt about the upcoming North American Anarchist Studies Conference in San Francisco during the 20th through the 22nd of March, 2015. He talks about the network, which was created to link researchers with activists and assist dialogue to spread anarchism in society. If you're interested in putting on a workshop, the deadline is coming up on February 14th, so hurry up! Info on the network, the upcoming (free) conference, past conferences, how to join the email list and more can be found at http://naasn.org
Finally, we get an update from a comrade in Barcelona about Operacion Pandora, the Spanish government's series of raids and arrests on December 16th, 2014, of anarchists around the country. The Spanish government, according to the guest, is trying to link those 7 remaining with charges of connection to the GAC (Coordinated Anarchist Groups) which published a rather dry book criticizing Democracy and it's uses by existing governments to justify VERY undemocratic actions. The Spanish government is then proposing that GAC is aligned with the Informal Anarchist Federation Tendency (FAI/IAF). The text, which will be distributed for free on February 14th in protest around Spain and portions have been translated into English (http://rabble.org.uk/against-democracy-terrorist-text-from-spain/). The guest speaks about La Ley Mordaza (Gag Law) recently passed in Spain and how this operation appears to be a first step of illegalizing effective protest tactics (such as protesting at religious institutions or setting up barricades) and branding them as terroristic in order to choke off resistance within Spain.
More on the case and shows of resistance against it can be found at http://efectivopandora.wordpress.com

Equilibrium
Feb. 8, 2015, 6:46 a.m.
This week in The Q itâs EQUILIBRIUM the Matrix inspired dystopian action piece from 2002 starring the then up and coming Christian Bale ⦠Itâs the future, 2072 to be more specific, and the place is Libria where a strict regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions. Books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Cleric John Preston (Bale) is a top ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist the rules. When he misses a dose of Prozium, a mind-altering drug that hinders emotion, Preston, who has been trained to enforce the strict laws of the new regime, suddenly becomes the only person capable of overthrowing it. Upon its 2002 release, Equilibrium received generally poor reviews and at times scathing, but it did manage to gain an audience of headstrong fans and a smattering of praise including some from the late Roger Ebert, who stated âEquilibrium would be a mindless action picture, except that it has a mind. It doesnât do a lot of deep thinking, but unlike many futuristic combos of f/x, it does make a statement⦠Crime or not, we do our best to tell you EXACTLY how we felt about this one, as well as our Top 3 Over the Top Action Scenes

Dr. King: Memphis City Sanitation Workers Strike
Feb. 7, 2015, 10 a.m.
The current struggles of public sector workers rights in Wisconsin and around the country has galvanized public and worker sentiment and support to an extent not seen since the battle to organize the Memphis City sanitation workers in 1968. This was part of the upsurge of the civil rights movement of the 1960 s and also of the mass unionization of public workers in that decade.
Going Down Jericho Road: The Memphis Strike, Martin Luther King s Last Campaign
with
Michael K. Honey, Prof. of Ethnic, Gender, and Labor studies, University of Washington, Tacoma
Martin Luther King was in Memphis to add his voice to protests in support of striking sanitation workers " the civil rights movement paralleled with the struggles of organized labor. Professor Honey details the daily evolution of the strike and what it meant to Memphis and the larger civil-rights movement. He chronicles the events that led up to that fateful day at the Lorraine Motel, and to larger social change. Honey s analysis of King s role is particularly telling. King, he writes, had qualities that allowed him to lead a mass movement that joined working-class people to the middle class through the black church until his Crucifixion.
Plus Taylor Rogers, a past Pres. of the Memphis Sanitation Workers Union talks about the 1968 Strike which was Dr. King's last struggle and a selection from King's speech at a strike rally.
Invisibilia
Feb. 7, 2015, 1:41 a.m.
This week's Savino Veritas starts off with five funny news headlines. The host Thom Savino pursues his hunch that Chris Christie's falling off a chair was because the chair, like it was for cowardly Clint Eastwood, was filled with the invisible President Obama. An excerpt from Ralph Ellison's novel The Invisible Man is read to illustrate Clint Eastwood's racist vision of his "inner eye." Finally, Savino comments on Part Two of Adam Curtis' Century of Self documentary tracing Edward Bernays' psychological manipulation of the fly-switching herd of humanity that transformed us into docile, "constantly moving happiness machines."
