Dr. Anthony DiMaggio earned his PhD in political science from the University of Illinois, Chicago. He has authored five books and written for numerous publications including Counterpunch, Znet and Monthly Review.
Finance Capital has moved into education in a major way after identifying the potential profits to be captured from the wealth allocated "to get ahead" by parents and society in what is pitched as a "knowledge based" economy. With only 25% of future jobs in the U.S. expected to require a college degree, many students will not find the job that they thought a degree guaranteed. That is also the existing crisis for Phd holders seeking a career in teaching.
Anthony will speak to the growing problems found in higher education in the United States and the abandonment of teaching , as a priority. He speaks to the unsustainable cost of higher education and the destruction of an engaged civil society that results.

This talk is based on Ward Churchill's 1997 book, A Little Matter of Genocides. It is a shattering and deeply disturbing survey of ethnic cleansing in the Americas from 1492 to the present. Churchill compares the treatment of North American Indians to historical instances of genocide by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, Turks against Armenians, as well as Nazis against the Poles and Jews.

Some of Russ Baker's research is however familiar to use via Mark Gorton's Fifty Years of the Deep State. The first 30 minutes is a May 2014 interview about the Boston bombings, the remainder of the show is a 2009 interview by Bonnie Faulkner which centers on his book, "Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, Americaâs Invisible Government, and the Hidden History of the Last Fifty Years."

In the conversation, we discuss "mainstreaming" efforts by liberal LGBTQI organizations towards pressing for same-sex marriage, removal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, hate crimes legislation and other reformist measures in the U.S. Dean contrasts these efforts and visions with abolitionism. We also discuss calls for justice in the wake of the killing of Trayvon Martin, attempts to reform aspects of the Prison Industrial Complex and discuss Foucaultian models of power in society.
Following the interview, we featured tracks from Skaphe, Youth Avoiders, Oblivionation and more for the last half of an hour.

THE GRADUATE Week four of our âwalk of shameâ round has many asking how one of us hasnât yet seen this American Classic from 1967. As we take turns Queuing up films that (for some reason) we havenât gotten around to it, this one is at the top of the list. It goes a bit like this⦠Mentally adrift the summer after graduating from college, suburbanite Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) would rather float in his parentsâ pool than follow adult advice about his future. But the pressure of family friend Mr. Robinson (Murray Hamilton) to seize every possible opportunity inspires Ben to accept an offer of sex from icily feline Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft). The affair and his pool are all well and good until Ben is pushed to go out with the Robinsonsâ daughter Elaine (Katharine Ross) and he falls in love with her. Mrs. Robinson sabotages the relationship and an understandably disgusted Elaine runs back to college. Determined not to let Elaine get away, Ben follows her to school and then disrupts her family-sanctioned wedding. None too happy about her pre-determined destiny, Elaine flees with Ben â but to what?
The Graduate was met with positive reviews from critics upon its release and in 1996 was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry as being âculturally, historically, or aesthetically significantâ. Initially, the film was placed at #7 on AFIâs 100 Greatest Movies list in 1998. When AFI revised the list in 2007, the film was moved to number 17.

Nationwide, Across Industries, Low-Wage Workers STRIKE, also Calling for Justice for Victims of Police Murder!
Fast-food workers are on the move and they've sparked other low-wage workers to strike for their just deserts. Fast-food employees in 190 cities, went on strike and they were joined by convenience, dollar store, airport service workers, and home care workers. Low-wage workers across the country are forging bonds and rising up in a mass movement for economic justice. The workers, on strike for higher wages, better working conditions and to unionize also raised their hands high, chanting "Hands Up, Don't Shoot," "I Can't Breath, I Can't Breath," to show their support for victims of racist police murders.

We'll hear reflections by KD, ravings by Bill O'Reilly, a funny rebuttal by Jon Stewart, and a short history lesson. (The only real wars on Christmas were fought by the Puritan Christians.) Plus selections from a comic audio *collage* on the subject by Scooter.
