COP20 and False Solutions: Guy Mcpherson on the Climate Connundrum

On the occasion of the UN Climate Conference in Lima, Peru, this week's Global Research News Hour examines the latest research into the causes of Earth's current Climate predicament. Guy McPherson is emeritus Professor of natural resources and the environment at the University of Arizona, He is the author of about a dozen books including 'Going Dark' and his most recent, ' Extinction Dialogs: How to Live with Death in Mind.' co-authored by Carolyn Baker. Guy is the author of the Nature Bats Last blog at www.guymcpherson.com.
Professor McPherson believes that there is virtually nothing umans can do to reverse the damage done by modern industrial civilization and that humans will likely become extinct as a result of runaway Climate change by the middle of the twenty-first century.
Professor McPherson explains his thesis of Near Term Human Extinction, the need to come to terms with the grief that goes along with that realization, the problems with geo-engineering as a remedy, and the problematic behaviour of both political leaders and mainstream environmental organizations in the face of the Climate Predicament.

ICC: The Broken Toy of Declining Imperialist Powers

David Jacobs reports ICC withdrawal of all charges against President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
Jacobs and Phil Taylor discuss the irony of the Prosecution admitting they have no evidence while requesting unlimited adjournment that would leave President Kenyatta in limbo.
Jacobs reads short piece reads from the Statement of the Defense, Steven Kay and Gillian Higgins, who point out that "Insufficient investigations and over-reliance on untested NGO reports crippled this case from its inception," and concluded that the Prosecution owed Kenyatta and others involved "an explanation and an apology for failing to investigate the post-election violence properly and shielding those involved behind its witness protection scheme."
Jacobs also reads Kenyatta's statement that the ICC "stopped being the home of justice the day it became the toy of declining imperial powers."
Ferguson Movement Attacks the New Jim Crow

Glen Ford, editor of Black Agenda Report, traces the historical pattern of police violence against Blacks and makes the connection to the growing Ferguson Movement, birthed in outrage over the senseless murder of Michael Brown.
In his analysis Ford emphasizes that the struggle against racist police violence has revived the spirit of the Black Power movement of the late â60s. And once again there will be a struggle against accomodationists such as that waged in the past by W.E.B. DuBois against Booker T. Washington.

The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. Next Les Leopold, another new speaker on the show, author of "How To Make A Million Dollars an Hour - Why Hedge Funds Get Away With Siphoning Off America's Wealth", describes financial chicanery of dubious legality and even less morality. We conclude with a stirring speech by regular speaker, Chris Hedges, who sets the austerity in the context of a dying empire, and assets that the only consistent position for those of conscience is outright rebellion against "the dehumanizing ideology of totalitarianism capitalism".

Anat Admati is a professor of finance and economics at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. Anat serves on the FDIC Systemic Resolution Advisory Committee. From protests against the Keystone XL pipeline to his "Do the Math" tour, to rallying of college students to call for their universities to divest from fossil fuel companies, McKibben now speaks for a mass movement of concerned people.
Bill McKibben is an author and environmentalist. His 1989 book "The End of Nature" is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change, and has appeared in 24 languages. Bill is founder of 350.org, the first planet-wide, grassroots climate change movement. Bill was the 2013 winner of the Gandhi Prize and the Thomas Merton Prize. Foreign Policy named Bill to their inaugural list of the world's 100 most important global thinkers, and the Boston Globe said Bill was "probably America's most important environmentalist." Bill lives in the mountains above Lake Champlain with his wife, the writer Sue Halpern.
