Jeremy Scahill - CAPA Keynote Talk

Scahill gave the keynote at Chicago Area Peace Action's 35th Annual Dinner celebration. He talks about his up bringing and how that led to his social and political awareness. He speaks about his path to journalism, after dropping out of college, that led him to a homeless shelter, Johna House and Democracy Now, where he apprenticed, and the value of non formalized learning. He lays out the role of corporations in overthrowing our political process in a bloodless coup, and the ignorance of the Washington political and media elites with regard to Foreign Policy, unless chaos and failed State are the intended goal.

The Mumia Law: 11-02-2014

This week, Sean Swain talks about the recently passed law to silence prisoners voices in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. In particular, this law came in response to a request by the widow of Officer Faulkner, allegedly killed by journalist Mumia Abu Jamal, that Mumia's voice not be broadcast in public as it brought her pain to think of her dead husband. Sean talks about prisoner speech and reminds us that while reformist, the protection of speech of prisoners extends to protection of our own voices on the outside.

Dilar Dirik on the Rojava Revolution, pt 2; Nicky Danesh on (A)'s in Iran

This week's we're presenting the second half of my conversation with Dilar Dirik, Kurdish feminist and anti-capitalist, about the Rojava Revolution. The Rojava Revolution, as we spoke of in the last episode, is the name for the Kurdish-initiated project to organize stateless communities in Northern Syria into 3 autonomous cantons in the wake of Syrian State withdrawal during the progress of the civil war in that country. Rojava is West in Kurdish and refers to the communities of Kurds living in that area as distinguished from Kurds living and struggling inside of the borders of Iraq, Iran & Turkey. Folks aligned with the Democratic Union Party, or PYD, in Rojava have been among the people fighting against incursion by Islamic State militants. After hearing from Dilar, we'll be hearing a segment shared by the folks from Anarchistisches Radio Berlin, which they worked together from audio recorded by Furia de Radio, an anarchist programme on 97 Irratia FM in Bilbao, Euskadi. The folks at Furia de Radio conducted an interview with Nicky Danesh, an Iranian anarchist living in exile in Australia this September. America's Taste in "Moderates"

Gowans clarifies that ISIS ideology is the same as the Saudi Wahhabi extremism, that these Arab terrorist groups are part of Al Qaeda and that the only thing that matters is meshing with the Western foreign policy objectives. Based on a recent New York Times article by Eirc Lichtblau, Gowans reveals how the CIA and FBI payrolled at least a thousand "moderate" Nazis spies and informants during the Cold War the same way that the US now payrolls "murder for hire fanatical religious Saudi terrorists" and labels them as "moderates."

Bemba's defense team harassed at International Court

Chris Black describes the arrest of African members of the defense team of a Congolese leader, Jean-Pierre Bemba. The prosecutors at the ICC illegally tapped defense phone calls and had them arrested for tampering with witnesses. There has been no public review of the matter, Black explains, because the Bemba team intended to show it was the prosecution that was in fact improperly seeking to manipulate those witnesses.
