Peter Dale Scott on the Ottawa attacks, Continuity of Government and architecture of the Deep State
Oct. 31, 2014, 11:36 a.m.
Professor Peter Dale Scott is a poet, author, former English Professor at Berkeley and a former Canadian Diplomat. He has written a number of books and articles on what he calls Structural Deep Events. These include incidents like 9/11 and the Kennedy Assassination that open the door to the adoption of increased executive and secret powers.
In this interview, Professor Scott takes listeners through the history and purpose of these deep events, the contraction of democratic impulses that results, his view that the recent Ottawa Shooting may constitute such a deep event and the role of military and security harmonization between Canada and the United States and how that connects with what he calls the Continuity of Government.

Out of the Woods - Show #238 - 10-30-14
Oct. 30, 2014, 3:35 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Oct. 30, 2014, 10:25 a.m.
We look this time at the terrifying reality that is "the war on terror", and the effects of that terror on two target populations - US and UK. Our first speaker, author, academic and activist asks why more US citizens today consider torture acceptable than did during the Bush presidency. Our second speaker, a senior lecturer in Risk and Corporate Security analyses the disproportionate reaction to the purported threat of terrorism. We conclude with more from Sibel Edmonds on the global heroin trade, and especially on its close connections with NATO.

Meet Tom Abowd and his new book "Colonial Jerusalem"
Oct. 29, 2014, 5:27 p.m.
This morningâs entire program is devoted to our host's interview with Tufts University Professor Thomas P. Abowd. His new book is "Colonial Jerusalem, The Spatial Construction of Identity and Difference in a City of Myth, 1948â2012."
If you want to understand what is happening to Jerusalem as we speak, and you want to view it through the eyes of an anthropologist, you want to read Tomâs book. The Israeli narrative which dominates the understanding of most Americans, and virtually all of the Congress, is a narrative based mostly on a false history fabricated by Israel to justify its theft of Palestinian land to build the Israeli state. It started before 1948. It continues today. Colonial Jerusalem tells the real story, and we need these kinds of accounts to puncture the Israeli fabrication with factsâ¦historical facts. This book can be an important tool for those of whose care about this issue and are working to bring justice to the Palestinian people. It begins with telling the truth to the American people. So we urge you to read Colonial Jerusalem, by Tom Abowd, published by Syracuse University Press. Tom joins the so-called new historians such as Ilan Pappé in providing us with the real narrativeâ¦the real storyâ¦the facts, which speak for themselves.
Quoting from the publisher's web page for Colonial Jerusalem (http://syracuseuniversitypress.syr.edu/spring-2014/colonial-jerusalem.html):
In one of the few anthropological works focusing on a contemporary Middle Eastern city, Colonial Jerusalem explores a vibrant urban center at the core of the decades-long Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This book shows how colonialism, far from being simply a fixture of the past as is often suggested, remains a crucial component of Palestinian and Israeli realities today. Abowd deftly illuminates everyday life under Israelâs long military occupation as it is defined by processes and conditions of "apartness" and separation as Palestinians are increasingly regulated and controlled. Abowd examines how both national communities are progressively divided by walls, checkpoints, and separate road networks in one of the most segregated cities in the world. Drawing upon recent theories on racial politics, colonialism, and urban spatial dynamics, Colonial Jerusalem analyzes the politics of myth, history, and memory across an urban landscape integral to the national cosmologies of both Palestinians and Israelis and meaningful to all communities.

Lymph Node Institute's "HALLOWEEN 6A" Show!
Oct. 29, 2014, 2:21 p.m.
YES! It's the Lymph Node Institute's long-unheard "HALLOWEEN 6A" show! I cannot even begin to guess what the numerical designation means since Doc Ellis has orbited out of the loop and Bugsy has no clue what it meant. Is this the first version of the LNI's 6th Halloween show? The first version of their 2006 Halloween show? Who knows? All I know for sure is that Doc kicked out all the stops to make an excellent all-musical soundtrack for an All Hallows freaks' fest! There are songs by Ministry, Dead Kennedys, ICP, Misfits, the Klopeks, Surfin' Dead, the Astrovamps, Alice Donut, Komodo Draggin', Severe Tire Damage, The Shaggs, The Wolf...and a message from Landover Baptist Church, followed by the odd inclusion of "I'm Ronery" from TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE for some unfathomable reason. Maybe THAT is the elusive "6A"? Whatever that means, this show is so mindlessly enjoyable that you won't give Shit One about it.
NOTE: The first song "Every Day Is Halloween to You" was mistakenly credited as being by Zoogz Rift. Doc Ellis got his Z's mixed up--it was by Zilch Fletcher. Easy mistake to make.
