It's an interview by Malihe Razazan with Mouin Rabani, Senior Fellow at the Institute for Palestine Studies and co-editor of Jadaliyya, on the underlying reasons for the latest Israeli assault on Gaza.
Israel is using false pretext to try to undo the PA-Hamas pact. Without evidence, and employing carefully choreographed theater, Israel blames Hamas for the unsolved deaths of three settler teen-agers. (Does this remind anyone of the US strategy to promote its wars on Afghanistan, then Iraq?)
The PA was Israel's servant, Hamas is not. One of Israel's PR strategies is changing the subject from its own brutal colonialism to its victim's supposed "terrorism."

On this Dispatch: TheAngryindian speaks on the present state of Black radicalism and the racist ridiculousness of neoconservative theories circulating within the Afrocentrism movement. Afrocentrism, especially in North America, is ridiculed by the Europocentric academic establishment as a joke. Chiefly because of institutional racism against Africans by Europeans, but also because of Afrocentrism's open embrace of patently falsified history and xenophobic theories of African ethnic superiority. Discussion includes an Indigenist deconstruction of 'orthodox' Afrocentrism as it is popularly viewed in the US and Canada and how it is misused as an emotional pillow for Black psychological insecurities rather than as a tool for self-enlightenment and political empowerment to address the many problems that still confront Africans trapped within an overwhelmingly racist world-society. Can Afrocentrism shed the nonsense and lead Black Peoples forward? Or has it become a liability, replacing authentic African history with false fantasies of a 'Master Race'?

Psychotherapist and author Karen Krett talks with Francesca Rheannon about THE DARK SIDE OF HOPE: A Psychological Investigation and Cultural Commentary
"Hope saturates the cultural air we breathe: in movies, songs, advertising, political slogans and self-help books. Now, for the first time, "hope" is being put on the therapistâs couch and its duality is examined in depth.
For too long, hope has been promoted as an unmitigated virtue without any consideration of its darker side. Hope that is a reflex divorced from reality may, all too frequently, impede development and contribute to psychological suffering.
In a childhood lacking in parental love or protection, hope can be the emotional glue that keeps one from falling apart, from losing the thread of life. In adulthood, replaying unconscious patterns of hoping for what can never be interferes with our ability to make good choices in the most important areas of our lives. It may seem as if giving up any hope would be disastrous, but this book offers a different and progressive perspective. By breaking the hold of the dark side of hope, we can become free to direct ourselves toward hopes which can be realized and thereby gain greater fulfillment." ~ Karen Krett, LCSW

A top U.N. science panel says humanity has just 15 years to avoid climate calamity. But humanity knows what to do and how to do it, says the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Still the question is when and whether humanity will.
Tom Ashbrook talks to Gautam Naik, science and environment reporter at The Wall Street Journal, Robert Stavins, an economist and expert on climate agreements at Harvard Universityâs Kennedy School of Government and Director of the Harvard Environmental Economics program, and Leon Clarke, who is a senior scientist at the University of Marylandâs Joint Global Research Institute.
