And this week we re doing just that as we que up the (1966) outer space gone inner space tale FANTASTIC VOYAGE Starring Stephen Boyd, Donald Pleasence and Raquel Welch. Set in the late 60 s as both the space race and cold war loomed, it tells the story of Stephen Boyd, who heads a team of scientists sent on a bizarre experimental mission. Through a revolutionary and as-yet-untested process, the scientists and their special motorized vehicle are miniaturized, then injected into the blood stream of a near-death scientist. Their mission is to relieve a blood clot caused by an assassination attempt. One member of the expedition is bent on sabotage so that the scientist s secrets will die with him. The film s Oscar-winning visual effects chart the progress of the voyagers through the scientist s body, burrowing past deadly antibodies, chunks of tobacco residue in the lungs, and other such obstacles. Fantastic Voyage was later spun off into a Saturday-morning cartoon series Gotta thank Dan Rodgers for inviting us to revisit this one from long ago. Supreme Court Rules on Workers' Rights; Hobby Lobby and Harris v. Quinn

Join us and our experts to analyze two of the most significant decisions by the Supreme Court ever regarding workers rights. The U.S. Supreme Court decided Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, that
employers can impose their religious beliefs on their workers through their business policies. Hobby Lobby, a for-profit, private, nationwide chain of arts-and-crafts stores, objects to providing contraception to its employees as mandated by the Affordable Care Act.
The implications of this case for women s reproductive rights and its potential for licensing discrimination in the workplace masquerading as freedom of religion are frightening. And then there s Harris v. Quinn, a First Amendment case involving home-care workers in which the Supreme Court decided that they do not have to pay fair share fees to the union who represents them. This case pitted public employee unions against labor's longstanding foe, the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, which helped bring the case. This case has been characterized as an attempted kill shot aimed at public-sector unions with serious spill over implications for private sector workers as well.

Hoile and Taylor note the ICC's racism (all defendants are from Africa), cost (billions of Euros), incompetency of judges (some ignorant of presumption of innocence), corruption as a political puppet of the EU and US, and prolonging of civil wars that led untold thousands of deaths and massive displacement.

Important BDS advances; Ali Abunimah on campus BDS campaigns

First, some news about divestment by some major players. United Methodist Ministries is in process of divesting its retirement funds from G4S (the world's largest "security" company). Similarly, the Presbyterian Church (largest religious sect in the USA) has finally decided to divest its retirement funds from Caterpillar, HP, and Motorola. All because of these corporations' involvement in major human rights violations in Palestine.
We also hear comment about the Pope's recent visit to Palestine, and a pioneering ad campaign launched by Ads Against Apartheid, a newly formed organization dedicated to public education about this subject. The first ad is on display at the Boston MBTA State Street subway station; many more are planned across the country.
This week we hear an address by author/activist Ali Abunimah speaking at Rutgers University last May on the subject of campus BDS campaigns and the challenges faced by students engaged in such campaigns. BDS campaigns are gradually taking hold on campuses despite those challenges, for example the threatened suspensions at Northeastern University (Boston).
Abunimah co-founded and continues to run the daily blog site electronicintifada.org. His recent books include "One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse" and "The Battle for Justice in Palestine."

Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith.
