This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length, but I try to keep them approximately 30 minutes in most cases.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. Does Freedom Of The Press Extend To State Secrets?

The First Amendment protects freedom of the press. Are there limits of freedom of the press concerning national security and accountability? The motion is "Freedom Of The Press Does Not Extend To State Secrets."
For the motion: Michael Chertoff, who is a former Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Michael also served as a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and as a federal prosecutor for more than a decade.
For the motion: Gabriel Shoenfeld, who is Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute. Gabriel is the author of "Necessary Secrets: National Security, the Media, and the Rule of Law," which questions whether the press should be prosecuted for revealing information that might endanger national defense.
Against the motion: Alan Dershowitz, who is Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. Alan recently joined the legal defense team for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Against the motion: David Sanger, who is Chief Washington Correspondent for The New York Times. In a 27-year career at the paper, David has reported from New York, Tokyo and Washington, covering issues surrounding foreign policy, globalization, nuclear proliferation and Asian affairs.
Moderator: John Donvan, who is an author and correspondent for ABC News.

Sternâs book exposes misconceptions, half-truths, and lies, mostly by RFK, that shaped the dominant, mythical version of what happened; how JFK acted to avoid nuclear war with the Soviets, facing down demands to attack by Joint Chiefs, RFK, NSC advisers and Sens. Fulbright and Russell and saved the planet.

Today on Sea Change Radio we talk with two people working on very different fronts of the environmental movement. Our first guest is Dale Wannen, a Presidio Graduate School alum who runs a sustainable and responsible investment firm. We learn about the latest in sustainable and responsible investing (or SRI), including whether or not the small investor stands a chance in the age of flash trading. He also explains how owning just a small amount of stock allows an investor to influence a corporationâs sustainability practices, creating a return that is both monetary and socially beneficial.
Then, host Alex Wise talks to composting expert Gail Loos. She tells us about the growing trend among municipalities to encourage composting through curbside pick-up programs. She also describes how to get a return on your biodegradable garbage, in the form of nutrient-rich soil, even if your city is not yet composting.

In early October the International Programme on the State of the Ocean (IPSO) issued a report on the impact of climate change on the ocean. Its results are alarming. Rogers, Scientific Director of the IPSO, joins us to talk about the report, and the urgent situation faced by humanity. Gleick talks about his book "Bottled and Sold - the Story Behind Our Obsession With Bottled Water." Ward discusses his book âThe Flooded Earth: Our Future in a World Without Ice Caps.â

It has been argued that no state or even country of comparable size has changed its water distribution as dramatically as the state of California. There is some truth to the worn out joke that the water from Northern California is pumped hundred of miles to fill the swimming pools of Southern California where huge cities such as Los Angeles were built in the desert. In the process of building reservoirs, pipelines, pumping stations and canals whole landscapes were destroyed or flooded, Native American settlements and cultures obliterated, and species such as the Chinook Salmon taken to the brink of extinction.
But the swimming pool reference is also misleading. That tax payer subsidized water fed and continues to feed giant Agribusinesses that in turn pollute the earth and air. And today, in 2014, industrial agriculture use looks almost benign as a project is under way -in the middle of an epic drought - to raise the dam of the Lake Shasta reservoir, build twin tunnels at the edge of the Sacramento San Francisco Delta to divert even more water to the south. And this time the additional water is intended for use by the oil industry in an expansion of hydraulic fracking. And the Governor of California in 2014, Jerry Brown, has given up all environmental pretense and is trying to convince the Obama administration that the Feds should pay part of the bill.
The film Chinatown and the book Cadillac Desert captured the imagination of millions - in good part because they described with much documentary evidence - the murderous nature of the water wars that built the system that is to be expanded now. Today a new chapter can be written - and some may say it could be the last one. And the players in this end-game have different names. They are the new owners of water such T Boone Pickens, Warren Buffet, The Resniks of Paramount Farms, Kern Water Bank, Metropolitan Water, and Westlandâs Water District. They all realize that we can live without oil but nobody can live without water and the most profit can be made by taking possession of the precious source of life.
