For more than 44 years, Max Dashu has researched and documented global women's history and cultural studies. She founded the Suppressed Histories Archives in 1970 and began presenting women's history slideshow. Max's legendary Archives hold over 15,000 slides with tens of thousands more images in digital format. She has taken her visual talks around the US and many other countries. She has produced two videos: Women's Power in Global Perspective and Woman Shaman: the Ancients (2013) Her next publication will be the first book in her multi-volume series Secret History of Witches, about women in European history, folk tradition, and the witch hunts. She clearly shows that once women were heralded and honored as queens and women of greatness and power. Megan Morgan asked, when interviewing Max: "What is the reason that women were removed from historical awareness:" Max replies, "Multiple reasons: to sustain the idea that men are naturally superior, all evidence to the contrary must be removed; disdain for women leading to the belief that females could not have mattered or done any significant, and thus evidence disproving that is ignored or regarded as insignificant; and male dominant systems would have to change if women knew their real history, that we are not doomed to be dominated, and that patriarchy is not the human default. Lymph Node Institute's Dahmer Party!

Yep, it was their "CanniZombie" show, but as JoeCosby pointed out, that title is misleading because it's not "Canni-" in the sense of cannabis. But that's no fault of the Institute boys, because this show was done so long ago I actually had to slice out a DALLAS PO BOX ADDRESS to bring it into line--and while I was at it, it needed a new title. The perfect one offered itself when it burbled from the lips of Doktor Bugbladder late in the show, an offhand reference to "...you know, that 'Dahmer Party' thing..."--and I'm not sure if Bugsy himself knew that his vocal cords had woven such perfection. But he will NOW! So tonight, the good (?) doktors of the Lymph Node Institute do what they do best--dissecting the human condition. By the same token, they are excellent assessors of the INhuman condition, as you'll see tonight when they sit down, pop the tops off some cold ones, and engage in a scholarly discussion on the differences in the diets and disciplines of the eat-a-dude-for-lunch bunch: cannibals, zombies, the occasional vampire, and hell, even Catholics. With appearances by Spazzmatic, Beck, Crispin Glover, lots & lots of the Misfits, and Doc Ellis's friend Krazy Zutroy from the LNI million-dollah-monstah-crassic "Wake 'n' Bake in the AM 2." And you can't cover the topic of cannibalism without playing the legendary cannibal classic "Timothy" by the Buoys. Yes, kids, in the late '60s, this ominously grisly song was a top-40 AM radio summertime hit. What the fuck.

Public Utilities Exporting Privatization?

Recently the government of Nigeria has started to privatize its public electrify sector. Manitoba Hydro International, the wholly owned subsidiary of Manitoba Hydro (A public utility) is taking part on the deal. Manitoba Hydro International has a three year management contract the Transmission company of Nigeria, to restructure and eventually sell the company to private investors. This deal brings up a number of questions; what affect will the privatization have on Nigerians? Why is Manitoba Hydro getting involved? Should public companies get involved in privatization efforts around the world?

Testing the Waters - Our Radioactive Ocean (ONE of TWO)

In an age when the ocean currents are as well mapped as river systems on land there has never been any doubt that radiation flowing into the ocean at Fukushima would eventually arrive at the west coast of North America on the Kuroshio Current. It was just a question of time and what the risks might be once they arrived. Canada was going to be the canary in the coal mine. The Kuroshio Current arrives there first and then branches down along the coast of the US. In February 2014 the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada reported at the meeting of the American Geophysical Union in Hawaii that they detected the radioactive signal as early as June of 2013. Ken Buesseler from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts, whose initiative and fundraising sent a research vessel into the waters off Fukushima only 12 weeks after the accident in 2011, has made an appeal to federal institutions to take on the monitoring of water off the West Coast. He made proposals to NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, to the EPA, to the Department of Energy, to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and even NIST, the National Institute for Standards and Technology. They all declined, stating that this was not their responsibility. The testing that has begun in February/March 2014 is a combination of crowd sourcing and academic work. Woods Hole does water testing along the Canadian and US west coast and scientists at San Diego State University in conjunction with the Applied Nuclear Physics program at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have begun testing kelp for cesium 134 and 137, the signature isotopes of the Fukushima accident. They all rely on dedicated volunteer efforts to help fund and collect kelp and water samples.
