Out of the Woods - Show #205 -3-13-14
March 14, 2014, 4:26 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length, but I try to keep them approximately 30 minutes in most cases.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Rent-a-coup in Venezuela still failing
March 13, 2014, 5:49 p.m.
Professor Emeritus at York University Maria Victor, also of the Louis Riel Bolivarian Circle, discusses the latest events in Venezuela.
There have been peaceful demonstrations in Venezuela for fifteen years. Maria Victor knows the difference. "What student demonstrations have you ever heard of where the people are wearing armour, waving guns - handguns and rifles?"
Wikileaks lists the opposition groups that Washington directly funded. It's not legal to do that in the United States, and it's not legal in Venezuela.

Race Baiting and Eric Deggans
March 13, 2014, 11:11 a.m.
Eric Deggans is a TV and media critic for the Tampa Bay Times and argues that the media has fractured into ever-smaller divisions populated by pundits who play upon the fears and prejudices of their viewers to garner larger audiences. Mr. Deggans proposes that the pursuit of higher ratings and greater website page views erodes political dialogue. Mr. Deggans makes a smartly presented call for more civil discourse.

interviews Jorge Martin, international secretary of Hands Off Venezuela
March 13, 2014, 9:43 a.m.
Latin Waves Host Sylvia Richardson speaks with Jorge Martin, international secretary of Hands Off Venezuela on the anniversary of the death of Comandante Hugo Chavez, the current attempts by US backed elite in Venezuela to instigate a coup. The discursive power of the mass media internationally who are owned and controlled by a few monopoly groups share a selective memory of the facts that poverty is not a natural condition but rather impoverishment is a process of exploitation and domination of the working class. Jorge point out that in the race against hunger Venezuela has led and proved that a revolution that makes worker's autonomy a reality is a bad example for the Capitalist world wide he says "They have chosen their side in this battle. We the people have also chosen ours".
He also speaks about the hypocrisy of the main stream media in how they portray the conflict in Crimea compared to how they are covering events in Venezuela.
