Single-Payer Heathcare in NYS and the USA
Feb. 1, 2014, 8:08 p.m.
Could This Be the Year in NYS for a Single-Payer Health Care System?
with
Assemblyman Richard Gottfried,Chair NYS Assembly Health Committee
and
Dr. Mary O'Brien, Board Member,Physicians for a National
Health Program, primary care physician at Columbia Univ., who participates in the medical economics section of the clinical practice course for fourth-year medical students.
Assemblyman Richard Gottfried, rolled out his bill establishing a statewide single-payer health care system, a structure often shorthanded by advocates nation-wide as Medicare for All. Even though the nation is only beginning to implement the federal Affordable Health Care Act, Gottfried said the Empire State should not have to wait years before seeing where it falls short. " Federal health care reform has done a lot of good, but it still leaves us in the hands of insurance companies. It would save the billions of dollars that we now spend on insurance company administrative costs. You and your doctor would work to keep you healthy. New York Health would pay the bill with the funding from broad-based revenue based on ability to pay" Gottfried said and "New York can do better. "
Plus
Sen. Bernie Sanders & Rep. Jim McDermott discuss the state by state approach to enacting Medicare for all single payer health insurance plan as pioneered by Vermont which could become the model for the nation.

#673 - The Language of The Vast Machine
Feb. 1, 2014, 11:13 a.m.
Similar in spirit to episode 670, we look at what Charles Eisenstein termed "The Ubiquitous Matrix Of Lies". We examine a range of lies spun by the vast machine as part of its efforts to perpetuate hopelessness, including a particularly obvious fraud from this August, a Nurse Nayirah style effort to drum up support for an attack on Syria. We focus loosely on war propaganda in Syria, but use a wide range of examples to illustrate the interwoven, interlocking nature of the matrix of lies while reflect on its implications for those determined to seek truth.

The Art of Manliness, with Brett McKay
Jan. 31, 2014, 12:13 a.m.
Brett McKay is the founder and editor-in-chief of the hugely popular âArt of Manlinessâ blog, a lifestyle site dedicated to reviving the âlost artâ of manliness. Brett created the site in January 2008 while in law school, with the goal to change the tone and discussion on what it means to be a man. He has since built a following of some 125,000 subscribers, been featured on CNN.com and in 2009 released the book âThe Art of Manliness: Classic Skills and Manners for the Modern Man.â He joined Guy Evans to discuss common portrayals of men in the media, virtues that modern men should aim to exhibit, and whether the rumors of manâs imminent demise are premature!
Out of the Woods - Show #199 - 1-30-14
Jan. 30, 2014, 10:51 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length, but I try to keep them approximately 30 minutes in most cases.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul
