What forces have conspired so that millions of Americans believe that the overwhelming majority of scientists are dead wrong about climate change? It seems at times that facts are just pesky talking points to be swatted away by other talking points. Is this the result of a corporate-sponsored news media controlled by the bottom-line, or is it the fault of an audience hungry to believe what it wants to hear? We explore these questions today on Sea Change Radio first by talking with Shauna Theel of Media Matters, who tells us about her organizationâs recent study that tracks how the network news programs discuss climate change. Next, we dip into the archives as host Alex Wise talks environmental messaging with prominent linguistics professor, George Lakoff.
Rethinking Money: How new currencies turn scarcity into prosperity (TWO of TWO)

This is part two of a 2013 global survey of community currencies, grassroots credit clearing and regional mutual aid systems. These are creative attempts to fill a role that the current monopoly system of money that is created by banks not only fails to fill but often undermines.
Bernard Lietaer is a former central banker and fund manager turned university professor and the Irish journalist Jacqui Dunne is CEO of an enterprise that assists entrepreneurs to restore the earth. Published in 2013 their book, Rethinking Money, is the most up to date international overview over complementary currencies and alternative systems of credit.
The real live projects that they describe, fall roughly into two categories, exchange systems that renew social bonds while helping individuals and neighborhoods to manage their needs for help, food, local trade, health care and education; and larger regional credit clearing and exchange systems that can actually create permanent jobs and substantial infrastructure like farms, gardens and parks, housing and public utilities.

Ernesto Vigil from Denver Colorado, discussed his role in the Chicano Movement working shoulder to shoulder with Corkey Gonzalez, the infiltration, and waning of the movimiento, and his newest book release.
Nikki Tafoya gave the first "kid Korner" segment about killer whales and their struggle to survive in captivity. She is top of her class and shows that she can read 90s words a minute, but gives her vocal theatrics to the narrative in true Hollywood style.
Francisco Romero gave a rap on the organization Union del Barrio and its work from San Diego to Oxnard, LA, and throughout our communities and in the pinta. His work is now with a legal agency that works to preserve the civil rights of its clients and he gave a summary of the latest police abuse case in Oxnard, where he resides. Romero also gave some insight into the work of the Southern California Immigration Coalition.
Omar Lopez from Chicago joined us for a rap on the work being done nationally on immigration reform and the debate relative to deferment for all, in light of the lack of immigration reform, and he also underscored the need to tackle the gang activity across his city. Lopez bluntly criticized the positions of Congressman Luis Gutierrez and his inability to push immigration reform forward despite his being the "champion of immigrants," and further discussed his 2008 campaign to unseat Gutierrez and why he could not accomplish it that year, but argued that the field is much more favorable now for someone to unseat him, mainly because Obama is not running now so Gutierrez has nobody to seek shelter from political scrutiny, and to also take him under his or her wing like Obama did in 2008.

Commentary on Karegeya's Assassination

The first half of the program deals with the assassination in South Africa of the late Colonel Patrick Karegeya by the Rwandan government of Paul Kagame. Disillusioned with the Rwandan regime of Paul Kagame, the self-exiled Colonel Karegeya revealed that it was Kagame himself who ordered the shooting down of the airplane carrying two African heads of state, the former (Hutu) presidents of Rwanda and Burundi, plus the (Hutu) chief of staff of the Rwandan army. Those assassinations were the signal for Paul Kagameâs (Tutsi) RPF to launch the final attack on the government of Rwanda which led to terrible massacres inside Rwanda.

Clean water solidarity in WV & Swain's bid for election

This episode features three content portions.
The first will be the 2nd in our hopefully ongoing presentation of audio essays by anarchist prisoner Sean Swain, currently held in isolation at Ohio State Prison in Youngstown Ohio for alleged involvement in the Army of the 12 Monkeys, a nascent prisoner guerilla sabotage movement in Ohio prisons which is spreading every wider. Sean Swain denies involvement in the group and a self-identified member of that movement denies his involvement yet he's been convicted of it despite any evidence and is now serving 23 hours a day in solitary, without human contact. We'll be featuring mostly weekly segments by Sean from inside prison until the fascist running dogs at OSP shut off our communication. Our second segment is a conversation with Nat and D, two anarchists in the
South East of the U.S. doing mutual aid solidarity work with communities
