On October 31, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit granted the motion of Mayor Bloomberg motion to stay the remedial decision in Floyd v. City of New York, a federal class action lawsuit filed against the NYPD and the City of New York that challenges the NYPD's practices of racial profiling and unconstitutional stop-and frisks. They also remanded the case to the District Court to assign a new judge. We ll discuss what this decision means for the continuation of stop and frisk, the concerted, pernicious manifestation of racial stereotyping and criminalization of entire communities and whether judge Shira Scheindlin, who merely made public statements in which she answered critics of her ruling, was targeted for rebuke and removal from the case.

Deconstructing Edward Bernays' 'Propaganda' (Part 12)

Who decides what is and isnât important? Who creates the demand for a particular product or service? What is the publicâs role in this process? In Chapter 10 (âArt and Scienceâ) of Edward Bernaysâ seminal text âPropagandaâ, the âFather of PRâ outlines his contention that the mechanism of propaganda must be used to âaccustom the public to change and progress.â In a short but insightful chapter, Bernays states that propaganda helps to establish what is beautiful, valuable, and desirable, specifically using the marketing of Art galleries as his example.
Although on the surface it may be ludicrous to suggest that contemporary art is a hoax, sold to us as being beautiful and revolutionary through the mechanism of propaganda, consider what our author Edward Bernays accomplished in terms of establishing the idea that the presence of a piano was essential in a modern home.

The horrible impersonations (all by the same guy) are only the beginning--through the wonders of ham-handed SFX, delightful tableaux rich in WTFly goodness begin to unreel: The Kennedy family's political finagling is retold as a hokey Renfair joust; mobster Carlos Marcello (sounding like THE SIMPSONS' Fat Tony) hallucinates in a Guatemalan jungle; and Marilyn is interrupted in her home in mid-cocktail by the appearance of two strangers with murder on their minds.
You will not believe this shite, O my Brothers. Please strap yourselves in tight. I'm sorry about this, really I am. I'd stop it if I could, but unfortunately I can't.
