This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length, but I try to keep them approximately 30 minutes in most cases. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. A recent online survey asked adolescents and young adults if they had ever made someone have sex with them when they knew that person didn’t want to. The results were surprising. Michele Ybarra was the lead researcher of the study published recently in JAMA Pediatrics.

The Case for Heroin Assisted Treatment in Canada

Pivot Legal hosted a forum to discuss the benefits of prescribing heroin to profoundly addicted users. The discussion featured Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Bruce Alexander, Dave Murray and Scott Bernstein. Rona Ambrose, federal Minister of Health, recently overturned a decision by Health Canada to allow continued use of heroin to participants in clinical trials currently underway in Vancouver.

Pact with the Nuclear Devil: A Saskatchewan activist's Story

Dale Smith is a fisherman and wild rice harvester. He lives off the land as best he can. His community of Pinehouse in Northern Saskatchewan is one of the sites targeted for collaboration on the dumping of nuclear fuel from reactors in Eastern Canada. Dale Smith addresses the power of the nuclear industry to distort local politics. HE exposes the agreement which mandated a gag order be placed on all town residents regarding opposition to the plan, and he speaks about the lawsuit he and 40 other people have launched against the two nuclear companies and the three levels of government permitting the plan to move forward.THis interview took place recently in Saskatoon on the occasion of his group, The Committee for Future Generations receiving an award from the Council of Canadians.

The Challenges of an Empire with President Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter is the 39th U.S. President, the founder of The Carter Center and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He remarks on the U.S. continuing commitment to war. He states that the U.S. is in violation of 10 of the 30 paragraphs of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He mentioned the gap between the wealthy and the rest of the country. He comments on the effect of unrestricted private funding of elections. He claims that the U.S. is the only developed country with a death penalty. He states his opposition to the death penalty and assassination of Americans. Then he explains how the Carter Center attempts to remedy some of these problems. Jimmy Carter's presidency was marked by the energy crisis and a troubled relationship with Iran. The Carter administration's foreign policy accomplishments included the Panama Canal treaties, the Camp David Accords, Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty, the SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union, and the establishment of U.S. diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. The Carter Center advances health and agriculture in the developing world. It has spearheaded the international effort to eradicate Guinea worm disease. Horrible historical impersonations by the lone hack-tor are only the beginning as JFK sits on a white cloud outside of heaven with Martin Luther King and the nightshirt-clad LBJ, reminiscing about crooked backroom deals and hot adulterous affairs--and then the narrative just goes off the fucking RAILS.
