Recognition of Israel as a "Jewish State"? then Phyllis Bennis on U.S. support
Oct. 30, 2013, 5:30 p.m.
A brief history of Israel's demand for recognition as a 'Jewish State'; followed by Phyllis Bennis's address to the Russell Tribunal on Palestine, in its NYC session October 2012.
The most basic problem with recognition as a "Jewish
State" arises from the apartheid this implies for the 20% of Israel's citizens who happen to be non-Jewish. The problems go on from there. None of this seems to bother Israel's cheerleaders in the USA.
The Russell Tribunal is independent of any government and has earned international respect as a gatherer of information usually suppressed by dominant governments and their mainstream media outlets. Phyllis Bennis examines the forces that have led to continued U.S. financial and military support for this brutal apartheid state.
