BSTF #1001-Lymph Node Institute's RAINBOW Show!

Yes! We're expanding into another double decade of questionable excellence with BSTF #1001, and tonight, it's the Lymph Node Institute at the controls! Doc Ellis and Doktor Bugbladder take a look at the most ephemeral of phenomena--the RAINBOW. Featuring such deathless acts as Rosie Rainbow's Rocking Frog Band (I shit you not), Ween, the Rolling Stones, the Cosby Sweaters, Negativland, Squant, Plunderphonic, the Theme from Mighty Thor, and an extended wallow in the Rainbow Brite vat with the theme in German, a whole bunch of RB songs played at once, and the reading of a hysterical xtian screed claiming that all Saturday morning cartoons were the works of Satan. But still, with all that, Doc Ellis came up a bit short--so I retrofitted the show last night to include some more rainbow themes, some of which didn't exist when the LNI first did this show. I mean, what is a Rainbow Show without Yosemite Bear, the "Double Rainbow OMG" guy? He gets treated to not one, not TWO, but THREE EXTRA RAINBOW SONGS, and he about has a goddamned double-triple infarction from all the joy! Thrill to the punk version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from SAVE THE GREEN PLANET, the best Korean-language SF alien-paranoia-torture-comedy ever made--then there's Annette Hanshaw's song "If You Want the Rainbow (You Must Have the Rain)" from SITA SINGS THE BLUES, and finally the whole thing wraps up with Jimmy Kimmel and friends doing a fucking spot-on cover of the Doors performing the "Theme from READING RAINBOW" while the rainbow-borne Bear man collapses in a pool of exultant goo.

Former Mexican Guest Workers Seek $500 Million In Stolen Pensions with Alianza de Ex-Braceros del Norte, a campaign affiliated with the International Migrants Alliance, a coalition of grassroots migrant organizations A caravan of ex-braceros from Mexico in what they're calling the Historic March for a Historic Debt came to the United Nations to denounce the human rights abuses of Enrique Pena Nieto's administration that continue to this day. The Bracero Program, established by the US and Mexican governments in 1942, was the country's first guest worker program. The delegation of ex-braceros are calling public attention to the fact that millions of these workers, many of whom have died or are living under poor conditions, have yet to receive the 10% taken from their paychecks in promised pensions. They are also calling for just immigration reform in the US because as the first guest workers, the ex-braceros can testify how guest worker policies legalize slavery and abuse. Currently, the Obama administration is pushing for a guest worker program as part of its Comprehensive Immigration Reform agenda.

Millennium Bulk Terminals Scoping Hearing Testimony in Pasco 10-1-13

Washington and Idaho citizens and government officials each offer two minutes of oral public comments about the Millennium Bulk Terminals proposal for coal export facilities in Longview, Washington, at a scoping hearing on Tuesday evening, October 1, in Pasco, Washington. Before 250 people and county and state agency representatives, during the temporary federal government closure, red-clad opposing and blue-clothed supporting speakers testify in order of drawn lottery tickets. They voice concerns about the global, regional, and community impacts of the Longview coal port and accompanying Northwest coal trains, for agency consideration in a draft environmental impact statement. Participants note employment opportunities, economic vitality, worker/public safety, and human, environmental, and climate health threats.
