This radio documentary covers the cases of environmental political prisoners Eric McDavid and Marie Mason, who are both serving sentences of around 20 years in prison in the US. We look at why these two are considered to be political prisoners and the movement of prisoner solidarity around the world. We explore the significance of these cases from a global perspective and talk about June 11th, the international day of solidarity with Eric and Marie.
Former earth liberation political prisoner, Jeff Luers shares his story. Author of Green is the New Red, Will Potter, shares his insights into the international implicaitons of these cases. Jenny from Sacramento Prisoner Support discusses Eric McDavid's case and Peter from Support Marie Mason talks about Marie Mason's case. The show is hosted by Australian forest activist Miranda Gibson, who brings her personal perspective on the role of prisoner solidarity in the environment movement.

We all know its true, we hate our jobs â wait a second, let me start again â we all know its true, we hate the jobs society has â wait, hmmmm, this is harder when you have limited space! Okay, one more time; we all have jobs (thatâs good) and we hate them terribly (thatâs even better), well some of us donât hate the jobs we have, but thatâs besides the point. Those jobs we have, which we hate, are ours by choice? Nope, by necessity! So if not by choice, why do we perform them? Because if we didnât, life would become much harder (as if it isnât hard now)! In this first of its kind CWB Podcast, dubbed a Special Comment, after the name Keith Olbermann used to give his political rants on Current-TV and MSNBC; I read a new booklet I am placing in the Public Domain asking the same question as above â Why do You Work. Part One of "When the World Stopped Making Sense," an occasional series within the Thoughts from a Useless Eater podcast(see uselesseatersinstitute.wordpress.com) with J.Q. Useless, a podcast that seeks a better understanding of "the way things are in the world" from a Christian perspective. This edition takes a look back a a horrifying missing-children case that forever changed Montgomery County, Maryland: the disappearance of Katherine Mary Lyon (aged 10), and Sheila Mary Lyon (aged 12,), on March 25, 1975. Concludes with a short look at a case 17 years later that exposed the locality to another level of evil: case of Hadden Clark, convicted of two murders in Montgomery County: Michelle Dorr, age 6, in 1986, and Laura Houghteling, age 23, in 1992. While this makes a fascinating radio narrative, I listen through it to hear the year 1973, because Marty's crew spent a week capturing wild ambient sound to mix into the soundtrack. You can't mask the reality coming through. Oh, we also get a thick dose of Little Italy atmosphere, what with the continual oldie pop songs and opera playing everywhere, and that beside the traffic, street noise, parties, bars, and dialogue. The people we get to know here are terrible. They're petty criminals and racists (they all seem to hate black people while doo wop serenades them), yet somehow we are drawn to them. We become witnesses. It's truly a parallel universe very like our own, whether we want to admit that or not. This show might even put you in a trance. (It happened to some live listeners.)
Prison Rights and Solitary Confinement in Canada

Last month, the Government of Canada reached a settlement with BobbyLee Worm, a 26 year-old Aboriginal woman who was held in solitary confinement for more than three and a half years. The lawsuit charged that Ms. Worm was treated illegally and inhumanely. The BC Civil Liberties Association represented Ms. Worm in the groundbreaking case.

Yes! It's been awhile since I played this one--and since I had titled it "The Oxycontinental," I'm sure many people had no idea it was a Rush Limbaugh joke and skipped it. And that's a fucking shame, because I suffered like a bitch putting this one together. I hate that smug fatcat prat with a white-hot loathing, but I had to immerse myself in a sticky, oily shitstew of his spew just to get the ammunition to take him out in one neat 20-minutes-and-change hit. IN HIS OWN WORDS, you'll hear him scoring his "country heroin" from Dr. Bruce Dern and licking toads to get high as he fucks a homeless woman in a dumpster. And in the middle of it is a sequence that I DIDN'T edit, a gloriously ironic piece of history where he states just exactly what he thinks should be done with drug addicts because they're destroying the country with their loathsome habits. Ha, I guess that just doesn't apply to HIM.
Because Rushy-Boy didn't rate the 17-hour Recombinant Comedy⢠treatment I gave George W. Bush, I had some time to fill--and that's where the drunk-off-his-ass John Wayne comes in, along with a studio tape of the Beach Boys trying to record "Help Me Rhonda" while their tyrannical dad Murry Wilson busts their balls in front of their friends. Parts of this tape were murky, but I enhanced the background remarks so you can hear it when Brian complains, "I have one good ear, and you're hurting it!"--which is supremely creepy when you consider that it was his own father who ruptured his eardrum during a brutal childhood beating. The other damning studio tape is the notorious Troggs session where the band is caught in an escalating, bitchy, histrionic rolling trainwreck over ONE SINGLE GODDAMNED NOTE. Then add the senile Colonel Sanders advertising "Kenfucky Tried Chicken," cartoon voice immortals Don Messick and June Foray getting sexy, Shatner and Zsa Zsa and Jack Palance getting pissy--and hell, I can't remember what else--and you've got a megabuttload of celebrity shame treading the stage in tonight's show.
